Views on Europe, please
Posted on 09/25/2005 4:28:01 PM PDT by visitor12
Hello, I'm a second year European Studies student at the University of Durham in England and i am hoping some of you may be able to provide some thoughts for a study i am heading on transatlantic relations. If you have some time please give me some insight into the views of conservative America on Europe and Europeans (as dispassionately as possible please.) What do you feel positively about and what makes your blood boil? I'm also asking the same thing in several liberal forums, it would be interesting if you could guess what responses i get there. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Most of the European stereotypes they have placed upon each others nationalities are pretty damned close to the truth.
Other than that... the French smell bad, and the Dutch are arrogant ("eige wyz" or however you spell it)

(as dispassionately as possible please.) What do you feel positively about and what makes your blood boil? Presumably we should overlook those two back-to-back conflicting requirements?
So little time, such a target....
Google is your friend. It seems unnecessary to start trolling up another flame war.

How do you define Europe? By a map? By a currency?
Just curious.
e.g. is Great Britain part of Europe?

America = exciting, dynamic and strong.
Europe = boring, stagnant and weak (especially in the face of tyrants and terrorists).

What I dislike the most.....the fact that many Europeans try to put there personal opinions of America, and are not Americans. I don't try to decided your policies....please stay out of mine.
The beautiful countries that are here in Europe, and the said fact that they are trying to melt it into one Europe.
What I like the most...those who stand with us and understand that America is not trying to take over the world. Everyone expects us to fix everything.....we are usually the first ones in.......and we are expected to come with money in hand......

Don't forget all the real help they offer in solving international problems. I don't mean just talk, I mean real, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-git'er'done help.

If you were actually involved in such a study, it seems to me that you would present more specific questions and issues to ponder. You post is very general. Either you're full of baloney, or you are a complete neophyte.

The Brits are good in a fight but socialism is slowly destroying a good country and people.
The French have no redeeming qualities.
The Germans are good engineers but must be constantly watched, for some reason they think they are such good engineers they should be engineering a master race which means every 50 years or so they need their asses kicked once again.
The Eastern Europeans, grateful no doubt to Ronald Reagan and America for helping with their hard won freedom, understand that socialism sucks and that freedom is the light at the end of the tunnel. They have been, on the whole, remarkably good allies with the notable exception of the East Germans who year for a return to the good ole days of totalitarianism.
I only speak for myself but the one issue in Europe that amazes me is the birth rate. You stopped getting married and having babies and started importing people from Islam.
Sorry you asked?

I have to say that British pub food has come a long, long way. The place gets unfairly slammed for having bad food, but it's just not true at all anymore.
