Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.
MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.
An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.
On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.
Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

In fairness, he did talk about the responsibility of the states in the initial phases and I believe he mentioned also how W/Feds were ready to go into NO, but weren't allowed.
That would be the dreaded Hurricane SHrillary
I know that and thank you.
But there are so many jerks and pop offs on these threads, every thread. So many inane comments. So many hateful judgements. And they affect other people.
Did you see me say that was everyone. You are making a blanket statement justifying everyone's behavior. I don't buy it and that is my opinion. I have seen plenty of anecdotal evidence and the Louis V handbags is just one example.
And let's not even get started about NO police participating in the Looting and stealing a damn bus from the Superdome that could have been used for other things..but they decided to use it for their own loot.
hmmm. I need a business. :-)
You are so right!
In case you missed it, you might get a kick outta reading this post from earlier:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1490378/posts?page=2506#2506
"Widespread looting" = three looting incidents, on opposite sides of town from each other.
In other words, looter season is now officially open, but the looters are few in number.
Some Louisianians, me included, are disgusted with the officials down here. But we voted against them. And we don't deserve the contempt of this forum.
I agree with you wholeheartedly!
Yep, I see that alot.
And another thing, on FR everyone keeps saying Dummies and Democrats and libs.
They are suffering too. And to reduce human beings to a label and dismiss the labels you don't agree with is inhuman to me.
I have a terribly suffering democrat in my guest house. I don't give a damn about how he votes, or how his wife votes. I just see the sadness, the shock on their faces.
Everything is not political.
Your right. FEMA is management. And I can tell you that in MS they are NOT doing a good job at management. However, we (locally) are taking care of things ourselves. I have nothing but praise for all the church groups, locally and out of town, who are doing an excellent job here.
bump. New Orleans is #1 on my list to revisit as soon as I can and NO is ready.
Thanks to all for info. Neighbor down road out with his chain saw cutting trees off house. Never mind that he's blocked in by fallen trees and an ambulance couldn
't get here for days if the saw slipped and he started bleeding. Some people amaze me -- stuck on stupid sounds appropriate here!
just sent message to kids so they wouldn't worry about us. Just heard message on radio that they're shutting down beaumont (and maybe orange) because water not safe and will take several weeks to fix power and make safe. Power lines and huge trees down EVERYWHERE. They're asking people to just leave town and find alternate place to stay for few days. Ha! Like people will really do that.
Will check back later to try to get news, which is limited. I have no idea what's happening except from this little radio.
Please send FReep patches.
Very true. All anyone has to do is look here:

to put things into perspective and understand the scientific and historical reality.
Global warming as postulated by the Left isn't just bad science. It's a total lie, an absolute invention. But then, their whole ideology is a lie which belongs in some alternate universe, not this one.
Here is a radar record with good coverage of the area - good to see the storm totals, etc. Much of the adjacent radar coverage is useless...

LOL What a spaz she is. They can "touch" them when they work for and buy them.
"Red cross opens 16 more shelters overnight, doctors and nurses needed there."
Right.
Their Christian love is rather limited in my opinion.
Thank You :)
I hope someone kills at least on looter.
