Killers of white victims and those who kill in mostly white rural areas are more likely to get the death penalty, a California capital punishment study says. The study linking death sentences with race found capital punishment in California is least likely to be meted out to defendants who kill Latinos and for those who kill in racially and ethnically diverse Los Angeles County, despite that county`s high number of homicides, the Sacramento Bee said Thursday.
'The whiter the county, the higher its death sentencing rate,' the report said.
Whites comprised 27.6 percent of the state`s murder victims in the period studied. Yet, those convicted of killing white victims were four times more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed Latinos, and three times more likely to receive the death sentence than those convicted of killing African-Americans.
The study is contained in a draft of an article scheduled for publication in the Santa Clara Law Review.

Well we must fix this problem! Non-whites deserve as much protection from convicted murderers as whites!
Whiter, more rural jurisdictions would be more conservative, hence more inclined to impose capital punishment. No surprise there.
As the black physician said on the TV show "House" last week when his colleague commented that, proportionately, more blacks are executed than whites, "That just means we need to be executing more whites."
Is anybody even executed in California? I never hear of any.
Juries in minority neighborhoods have been proven to not believe the police and so vote accordingly.

As if one thing had anything to do with the other. Perhaps the white fols murders were more often premeditated. Perhaps stronger evidence (possibly due to community cooperation) led to those penalties. Perhaps More murders of whites are solved (possibly due to community cooperation) then are murders of blacks.
I think it's more to do w/ the jurisdiction - non white: being inner city, liberal judge territory
I don't like the death penalty. The lawyers get rich. Many people do get what they deserve (I acknowledge that) but, many people for what ever reason (race, being female, state laws, quality of lawyer, other technicalities) just get the 'life sentence.' I say, just make them pound rocks and think about their crime for the rest of their lives. It's cheaper and it just has less political overtones
No, not if whites do not commit the bulk of the crimes.
Crime has a racial tone. That's the reason dims don't like profiling.
This may have more to do with murders of blacks and Latinos being more likely to be gang related. And prosecutors might not be willing to press their luck asking for the death penalty.

Twelve? Hell, we had twelve executed in Texas in 2001 in six weeks!
Just another anti-white rant. Since most killings are black on black, turn all the killers loose , They dont come back to white area's to kill white people they go home and kill their own. Turn them loose.
