Hide in plain sight...
"Freedom of speech" to the Left generally means the freedom to shout down anyone they don't like.
I had a run-in with a CINO a few days ago, a sloganeer with no wish for thoughtful debate or the skills either. It wasn't long I was thrown the typical "you're a Klansman" response.
So yeah, they're about....
Actually, those ads were probably Public Service Announcements provided by the Ad Council and were being used as filler. A lot of radio shows that have poor ratings have to run Ad Council stuff because no one will buy time on their broadcasts. On WLS in Chicago they used to Run Dr. Dean Edell's show at like 4am in Sunday morning, and at least half the ads were PSAs.
From what I consider reliable estimates, there are probably about ten times as many Freepers as DUmmies, like 10,000 vs. 100,000+.
Well...one that comes to mind off the top of my head is Liberallarry. While I certainly don't agree with his positions, I've never encountered any of the vitriol that I have seen with others. Another one may be Logsoul...only because he seems to take contradictory positions on just about everything. He was a big Plame defender...and while I had a long, heated debate with him, he stood by his position without resorting to namecalling. Thankfully, the abusive ones don't last long.
I used to work for a small company which was composed of many family members and sometimes family squabbles spilled over into the workplace. One day a number of us in the service department were having lunch in some pizza place and Joe began cutting on his brother-in-law, Mark, who was late. Joe said, "He's probably listening to that idiot, Limbaugh, again." This was a cue for others at the table to also start cutting on Mark who had been urging others to give Rush a chance, since he was relatively new to national radio and all the MSM commentary had been about what an extremist he was. Joe would augment each comment with further commentary as to what a jerk his brother-in-law was.
After sitting and listening for a while, Joe asked what I thought. I said, "Well I tend to agree with Churchill when he said, 'A fanatic is one who won't change his mind and won't change the subject.'" Initially everyone thought I was talking about Mark, but within half a minute the conversation had moved on to another topic.
I'm sure some didn't catch on to the combination of ambiguity and irony, but at least one guy did who gave me a "look" after I spoke. Sometimes life is great!
I think you've got it.
Thanks, I've learned that all by now. This is a kind of older thread.
I think they just have some things missing.
"Those who are excised are generally the ones were it is obvious their intent is to disrupt or distract from the real issues."
I agree that we should give 'em a little more rope to hang themselves with (maybe we could even converty one or two first). But it's like Rush says, when they can't refute your argument they start calling you names. I think we should let 'em get that far, then zot 'em.

Actually, Juan has become really disappointing lately. He's turned into the DNC talking point machine. Now, if you want to set up a debate with Mara Liasson or Ceci Connelly, I'm there.

You right; I've noticed that too. Historically, though, I've been impressed with his ability to engage in civilised debate and provide facts to support his arguments.
Let's hope the DNC brain eating disease hasn't infected him for good.
Warner Brothers cartoons were the best, no question. MGM cartoons (esp those directed by Tex Avery) run a close second. I can't watch a Disney cartoon. They simply aren't funny IMHO.
Marry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Yeah, you're right. (The one of Tom and Jerry in the bowling alley was a masterpiece).
The '50's was the Golden Age of animation. Why anyone vaunts the likes of something static such as Speed Racer is beyond me.
See y'all....
I slipped up. The '40's is where animation began to grow.
I'm (apparently) one of the few who find the threads they initiate most boring.
In Before the Zot and associated cartoons, etc., are most unentertaining.
In a way, I think it's ok. Instead of them in a stealth mode and when something is really important that's happening (like the first debate of W's re-election), they don't have the ability to come out of the shadows soooo fast and totally ruin the discussion thread. Which appeared to have happened...so many FReepers were bummed out by the troll's many many comments. We sure don't need that again...IMHO.
Sometimes a troll might seem totally tame, but it turns out Jim found their IP and/or e-mail address was a retread. You might every now and then see he himself make a post saying "so-and-so " is also known as.... (and he'll generally give several of the other banned monikers).
