Whoraldo basically excused Mayor Nagin's non action when specifically called on the "2000 buses" question from Hannity. He than said "We need to come together" when he was losing the argument...
Geraldo and the mayor must be the only people in this country who don't realize that the entire REGION was destroyed, not just NO. What a putz.
Geraldo and Shep have great futures as circus clowns.
"1. If buses were available it would not have been hard to get someone to drive them."
A plan could not have just anyone drive them. Insurance issues, etc.
"2. Where would they go? Higher ground ! Do not think it would have been hard to spot a group of buses."
They needed a plan with military bases, Astrodome, etc...and this would have been activated twice before, earlier evacuations. People wouldn't go for it.
Perfection is impossible. The real fault, IMO, is getting the busses late into the Superdome. If 80% evacuated, I think that's a darn good result. Try evacuating 80% of New York. Or just Manhattan.
It was the Republicans that slashed all the tires on the buses to get even with the Milwaukee Tire slashers.
As usual, Hannity has the same guests on TV as on his radio show earlier.
I was flipping through the stations, and I heard Hannity ask Jerry Rivers about who is to blame.
Jerry said that the least amount of blame should go to the locals, because they lost their homes, etc.
I went back to the FM band at that point, because Jerry pissed me off with all of his hysteria last week, and because I knew Sean would not press him with the right follow-up question.
You should have been at the Emergency planning meetings with Nagin and company. You could have asked those questions months and years earlier. Now is not the time to ask "Who could have driven those buses?"
The best news of the day?
Tom Delay says we don't need no stinking hearings. You go guy.
The point here is that Geraldo claimed that locales neighboring NO would not allow entrance of evacuees from the city. Geraldo actually said that!
There should be clips and transcripts.
I'm willing to bet that down the road, when it is all sorted out, we'll learn that he was pretty much right about that, at least in part. Before the hurricane hit I speculated that the reason for not getting the transit-dependent poor out was because the rest of LA couldn't agree on a plan, with no city willing to take in 'trouble'.
Subsequently we have learned that there was a statement in the state's evac plan for using transit, but we don't know if the plan specified where shelters were to be setup to receive massive bus migrations. Betcha the other parishes fought attempts to put such shelters in their borders, for both cost and 'demographic' reasons.
500 buses, none deployed prior to or after the hurricane. To where? Those 80 elderly who drowned in a nursing home, as one example, would have been happy for a ride 2 miles away to higher ground. There is NO excuse, no matter how hard you try.
Well, Geraldo is a giant douche. But that shouldn't be news to anyone...
The city has a shared emergency plan with neighboring cities and states. It was not enacted. No preparations were made to send people to other cities.
The mayor knows who dribves the buses. So does the govermor. They intentionally didn't deploy the buses for economic reasons, same as in all previuos hurricanes. Nice try.
There were plenty of posts here on FR saying they didn't want them coming to Texas or their town.
He's a bleeding heart liberal...and a drama queen...
