Just look at MOM. She's got got that, "I'm gonna open up the biggest can of Whoopass this kid has ever seen!" look.
I can see the split starting on her forehead in that pic.

Hope he adds salt to the wounds by nominating one of the Janice's into O'Connors position.

That's the part I don't get either.
Scalia has been our friend in the court for a long time....
..Do you suppose Scalia doesn't want the position?....nah, that wouldn't be it.
So I don't know how Roberts can go to the head of the line.
Nothing against Roberts...but I really like Scalia.

The main influence of the C J is that he assigns the cases to the various justices to see if they will review them. I can see where this might have some influence. For example, if there is a Second Amendment question on appeal to the Court, it might be referred to Thomas rather than Souter.
Because Roberts was a clerk for Rehnquist and was part of Rehnquist's circle of friends he had mentored, I hope we will not be disappointed in him. Now everyone should pray that Pres. Bush makes an excellent choice for the O'Connor seat, and does it this week.

It also means that Gonzales will not be nominated for the position of Chief Justice. I have severe reservations on him.

At least the DEMOCRAPS over on "Democratic Underground" are busting blood vessels in their brains this morning.
They have gone PSYCHO over this. Certifiable. Poor babies.

Guennie when you pick a CJ age is a big factor..Scalia would be CJ for 20 years...Roberts may well be CJ for 30.
This is a good move....it's the next one...that will be difficult.

One thing I thought was telling is how the President started off by saying(paraphrase) "Over the past weeks, the American people have been able to get to know Judge Robert's and they like what they see"
$$$$$
Chess, not checkers! Rehnquist's death, and Stevens age (85) are not surprises. President Bush always is a 3D thinker.

They were certifiable before this.

Hmmm....not sure what I think of this. I think I'd prefer Scalia be moved up. Should be interesting.
I thought that was going to happen as well. I'm sure the Justices will uphold the utmost professionalism, but I wonder if deep down, Scalia was hping. Would have been interesting if he picked, Thomas also.
To: mewzilla
Works for me :) Not for me. We haven't even had one vote from Roberts so we don't really know how he'll come down. Joseph Farrah might be right in saying the Roberts is a liberal in hiding. Plus, it would piss off Justice Scalia to the point that he might resign and we might get David Souter II in his place. Bad idea.

Exactly and ... one gets the opportunity to blow off a little steam while not shooting up the bar.
"It does matter. Otherwise, one might as well just be a statue for pigeons to land on."
The results, of which, are harrowing, as we can see. ;)

Here are the four possibilities: 1. Edith Jones 2. Janice Rogers Brown 3. Emilio Garza 4. Edith Clement And the winner is...Edith Clement. Not only is she a woman, she was runner-up last time and ... she is from New Orleans.

This was a good move...NARAL...People for the American Way and NOW have to be kicking themselves over running that stupid ad a month ago.
That ad got Roberts confirmed to be CJ and that ad I will guess will get the next Bush appointee confirmed.
That ad and all its shrillness will get thrown back at the left....for years to come.
