I'm sorry, and I am NOT a liberal, but I am HUGELY DISSAPOINTED in the federal government, FEMA and the La/NO government in this situation. We can topple a government in a matter of days, but we can't get people out of a freaking city??? I keep seeing and reading people saying, "We are coming, it takes time", blah blah blah. Days are going by and only a HANDFUL of buses are taking these people out of here for God's sake.

These conditions are horrible. People are dying waiting for help. BABIES ARE STARVING FOR GOD'S SAKE. This just pisses me off and it pisses me off how the people on this board want to say crap like "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder". What a thoughtful post. Blaming liberalism is as assinine as blaming Bush for Global Warming.

Disgusted with this forum the last few days.

We can topple a government in a matter of days,

Which government did we topple in a "matter of days?"

Of course there are 365 days in a year ...

I'm disappointed that leaders have not publicly ordered "shoot to kill." I want to see the bodies of these animals in the streets of NO.

you can't rely on fema or the government or your neighbors or anybody else --- you've got to look out for number one --- waiting three days for a storm and not gathering at least a few days of water or saltines is silly --- while this is horrible, the lesson is clear --- there will be no cavalry coming to the rescue when tshtf....it's up to us

I agree, but up to a point. What about the people who chose to stay behind? What about all the looting? What about the shooting of cops and coast guards, what about the raping of toursits? What about the mayor not issuing a mandatory evac before this?

There is PLENTY of blame everywhere

That is a really stupid thing to say. You obviously relied on pure emotion to form that sentence. It took many many months of planning followed by many weeks of transport before we toppled any government. You must see the federal govt. as some kind of Superman. Which, to me, explains your objection to "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder".

....sure, uh-huh... do you know anything about logistics.

why don't you try this..get a u-haul, fill it with water, MRE's,, generators, gasoline and oil to run them, and some firearms to protect yourself.

take a little drive down the highway that is FLOODED, I-10 is in pieces and then think about what you just asked.... who do you help..the first person you see or do you "hoard" the supplies till you get to NO.

Now how do you feed, water and get gas to come back and resupply...???? Multiply that by 1000 fold... guess what? This is something called "real life" not tv "reality" Survivor where you get voted off... but the real deal with the rule is the strongest survive, the man with the biggest gun willing to use it makes the rules and no "wish" we had a good ending before the commercial is going to happen.

Try and go to any organization you belong to and get things going .... NOW. I'd love to see you try to come up with even a basic plan on supply, logistics, and manpower needed for this.

Libs are a joke and stupid libs are malignant jokes.... if you're not a lib... then you're just .....'misinformed'.

No, it's not. What you are seeing in New Orleans is compelling evidence of the fact that poverty is less of an economic condition than a disordered state of mind. Granted -- there are a lot of folks trapped down there in New Orleans who are too old or infirm to fend for themselves. What is most disturbing, however, is the large number of people who are reasonably young and healthy enough to contribute greatly to the relief effort but who completely lack any sense of survival skills, initiative, etc. They've been denuded of these things through their life-long existence in an urban, nanny-state environment where it never took much effort to survive.

Just go back and read through all of the breaking stories on this topic over the last couple of days. If I read one more quote from a 40-something year old man who is bitching and complaing that "they're not doing nothing for us" (without ever really having a clear grip on who "they" is), I think I'm going to vomit.

Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh. It seems to me that the most able-bodied young males down there are firing guns at the helicopters and boats that are supposed to be rescuing these people.

What Govt have we toppled in a matter of days with NO planning?

And did you SEE this city? And the surrounding region?
They can barely get into these places and even when they can there is no power, no water, no sanitation, no food, no resources to even support the people they send, much less the thousands they are expected to help.

The scope of this disaster is enormous and WAS not predicted EVEN the day AFTER the hurricane hit.

I am really tired of all the people sitting back in the comfort of their homes criticizing those who are trying to help in this desperate and difficult situation, in some cases even being shot at.

And I, in turn am disgusted with tunnel-vision posters who look at only downtown NO and whine that the buses, food, and NG haven't arrived immediately -- and blame it on the feds.

Make the effort of examining satellite images of the entire area.

You can't drive buses and trucks over flooded roads and missing bridges!

Grow up and quit whining like a liberal CNN talking head!

I am surprised you see no connection between liberal policies and the mayhem occuring.

Liberalism means "it's not your fault", "you've been oppressed by the evil white oppressors", "you're entitled", "we'll take care of your fatherless children", "drug addiction is an illness and here's your methadone", "we'll increase your foodstamps", etc etc etc. Add to that a completely corrupt city and state government who stay in power by keeping an underclass helpless, and a corrupt bunch of cops and the result is what we see before our eyes.

Obviously there are innocent people suffering terribly. But they would not be suffering as much if public policy had been very different.

BTW, food and water were delivered both before and after the hurricane. And now it is difficult to get in supplies because fiends in human form are shooting at those trying to help. You think they're shooting just because they're hungry and thirsty? If you were hungry and thirsty would you try to kill those who are trying to help you?

The anarchy, looting, hopelessness, and helplessness we are seeing in the aftermath of Katrina is the result of too many people always believing that government is watching out for them and will always be there to help them. Apprently you feel the same way. Yeah, liberalism IS a mental disorder because it breeds an addiction to government which leads crowds of mostly healthy people to sit around and wait for the government, their savior and God, to come to the rescue.

You are a good freeper, but I would suggest that if you are disgusted with this forum that you stay away fror a few days. People have varying points of view about this unprecedented situation and will continue to sort them out and express them freely here. Regards, LH

We are getting no specific information from the persons responsible. The governor has told us nothing, and FEMA has been a disappointment, to say the least. No explanations for the delay in getting people out. Are bridges down so that boats cannot ascend/descend the river? Why the slowness is getting buses into the city? The only good thing that comes out of this is that we are getting a full dress rehersal of a major terroist attack on a major city.

I believe a huge mobilization lasting 6+months preceeded the toppling in a few days...

People are dying waiting for help.

This is not really the truth.

Truth is, people in hurricane country are dying 'cuz they never made past arrangments to evacuate when hurricanes threatened. Truth is, people in hurricane country are dying because they took no steps to prepare for the inevitable cat 4/5 that would eventually hit. They didn't stock food or water or meds or TP or anything. They just thought somebody else would come and cover for their irresponsibility. They live behind dikes, below sea level, next to the sea, next to a large lake and next to a river yet apparently few took steps to be prepared for a flood. Damn idiots.

They had time to leave and they didn't. They had many warnings about being prepared for such an event and didn't prepare. They are dying because they choose to be irresponsible. They played the odds, they lost. You think I got a bill now? No! Not me.

We are at war and the central government still advises all citizens to be prepared for several weeks without city/social/government services. Are you preparing? I see I probably don't have enough ammo saved up.

Blame the thugs for the conditions in NOLA. If the GOVERNOR had done her job instead of being the personification of the stereotypical DUMN BROAD this would have never had happened.

Oh put a cork in it you useless toad! Drive to New Orleans. Get your freaking hands dirty. Which part of "mandatory evacuation order" don't you understand? The government did and is doing its job. The citizenry on the other hand are behaving like whining brats, in NO and elsewhere, including most of the media and yourself. When Al Quada nukes its first American city, are you going to moan about your government or get off your ass and help?

Wankers....

Hard to disagree with you.

The only "super power" on the face of the planet, and we can't muster the resources to go in and pull these people out.

But at the same time, this should be a lesson to the rest of us.

Do NOT depend on the Government to help you in case of a real disaster be it natural or man made.

Keep your powder dry, keep an emergency evac plan handy, keep 10 to 15 days of food and water stowed nearby and enough ammo for a small war.

You may need it.
