28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Tropical Storm 12
Saw that interview. Wondered what she expected. Our troops are eating them.
And I'm signing off for a while.
Keep the Flag flying.
Let me tell you, that hositals all over the country (especially in the southeast) are VERY involved in this. I can't (won't) tell you how I know, but hospitals all over the south are ramping up for a HUGE influx of patients over the Labor Day weekend. They are on the ball.
"One man says "hell no," he's not happy to see the Guard"
You just can't please some. I saw a woman on FNC this AM who complained, "Well yeah, we got water now, but we don't have any ice! It's HOT down here!"
I swear I'm not making this up..
Ping to the live thread.
The race card should be: Why did the Mayor issue a mandatory evac order and have NO MEANS to evacuate people that had no means to leave? Just how were they to comply?
I just posted the same thing. I forgot to mention critical patients dying in hospitals due to no electricity or abililty to provide adequate care. Then there will be some disease, I would imagine, after seeing all of those people trudging thru the dirty waters.
It goes both ways. Differences between work, energy and power.
Even the "cubed" solution is an approximation.
I hope it is a trivial issue now.
See "Maria".
In any event, several days before it's a concern. Onward.
This EXACT senario was predicted in a 5-part special report in the Times Picayune a couple of years ago. It's amazing just how close the predictions in the report are to the reality of what is happening now.
"Amid this maelstrom, the estimated 200,000 or more people left behind in an evacuation will be struggling to survive. Some will be housed at the Superdome, the designated shelter in New Orleans for people too sick or infirm to leave the city. Others will end up in last-minute emergency refuges that will offer minimal safety. But many will simply be on their own, in homes or looking for high ground.
Thousands will drown while trapped in homes or cars by rising water. Others will be washed away or crushed by debris. Survivors will end up trapped on roofs, in buildings or on high ground surrounded by water, with no means of escape and little food or fresh water, perhaps for several days."

I could be wrong, but I have a gut feeling that the fires are being deliberately set. Anyone else think that?
good article....
I think DEMS have NO IDEA of the price they are going to pay over their handling of this nightmare...
Besides, if you assume that 100K were left in the city when it flooded (9' of water, mind you), it is not unreasonable to think that 10% died in the flood.
Jack Cafferty on CNN blaming all this on the war in Iraq...as usual.
They're aren't dead till you can't find a pulse.
You have to touch them to know. We aren't there yet.
Never say die.
I am referring to changing their disaster responses. The dr. I heard last night commented that their generator was in the basement. After the electricity went off, they fired it up, it flooded. They had to go into another building and turn on another that subsequently flooded. He said they lost some of their ventilator patients in the end.
For those of you that want a live blog from NO.....

I hope you are right - but honestly they never pay a price because they have the media on their side. That's how they get away with all of it.
Advice: If you have to watch CNN (as they have had comprehensive coverage of this disaster) at least keep your thumb on the mute button.
Thx.
Once he takes off, outbound, or once the MSM picks it up, delay is unnecessary.
Your effort is appreciated.
Right after the initial storm isn't Shep the one that said NO had been spared?
