28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

I've been gone for a bit (I had to stop watching for a bit to regain myh sanity). What's happened in, say, the last 2 hours?

"FoxNews says 9,000,000 MRE's have been delivered to SuperDome. Weren't they supposed to have a bunch of MRE's stored there before the hurricane hit? What happened to them?"

Did you see the 40ish woman they interviewed yesterday at the Superdome, who looked rested and clean, complaining that they had to eat MRE's.....and they "weren't even heated up." Complained that they weren't given "a hot meal since they arrived!" I could not believe she said that!

9,000,000 MRE's will feed 30K souls for 100-300 days.

Now you see why the 72 hour rule works. Don't mess around with one pallet. Move aid in in quantity.

Go Guard!

The General is just what's needed. He ought to entice the Governorette and Notmayor into a fake CNN studio, lock them in and start takin' care of business.

I was asking somebody else about MS. I would still expect the toll in NO to be high. But who knows how many at this point?

there's no way that theirs 10,000 dead in NO. The city wasn't even hit the bad by the storm, all this damage was caused by the levees breaking not the hurricane.

People can die in floods, too. The deaths are expected to be drownings, or people who died in their attics, or who died from dehydration, illness, or murder.

I hope the number isn't 10,000, but it will be more than a thousand.

Hopefully, the residents of New Orleans don't follow this man's wishes to burn down what is left.

They did it to Watts, Newark, and other cities in the USA in the 1960's.

He's probably referring to the post from yesterday (or Wednesday?) from MFH.

There will be dead in the flooded houses probably. Dead in attics where they went to escape the floods and couldn't get out. Then you have the dead from exhaustion, murder.

The black guy on PMSNBC is playing the race card big time.

Letter to PMSNBC:

Dear MSNBC

Some of the race baiter's in the Main Stream Media, Congressional Black Congress along with the NAACP are creating a problem for the good folks down on the plantation.

So what that the majority of the evacuee's are black. Were all Americans and you should know better than to fall in with the radicals.

Opening up Reliant Center next to Astrodome for refugee processing

Opening up Houston Convention Center

Also outside Reliant Arena the, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was checking in animals.

One of the animals checked in was a five-year-old golden retriever mix named Precious. She and her owner swam for two days to escape the flooding. She was being loaded into a carrier that will be taken to the SPCA, which has taken in 300-400 animals onsite.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced Thursday that Dallas would host 25,000 refugees at Reunion Arena and 25,000 others would relocate to a San Antonio warehouse at KellyUSA, a city-owned complex that once was home to an Air Force base
