President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

The city of New Orleans sent buses all over NO all day Saturday and Sunday at appointed places to take people to the SuperDome.

There was plenty of help to get them out. They just didn't want to go.

You didn't read what I wrote. It was a dumptruck with at least two pallet loads of water bottles in its bed. Interestingly, later Shepard was describing the "chaos and absolute lack of help or support" as three large, air conditioned motor coaches full of people from the stadium rolled away behind him.

Um, yeah, I saw that dumptruck, too. It went to the Superdome, not the freeway where so many other refugees were with Shep. Those buses didn't stop and pick up any of those refugees on the freeway. There is some question as to whether they are letting those wandering in through the water into the superdome. Shep's criticism wasn't about how the dome, it was about the total lack of info or direction given to the masses streaming all day onto and down the freeway.

BTW, the only criticism I have of the Superdome is the lack of communication, which it sounds like may have ended today. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than the alternatives, and was a wide decision to use as a 'refuge of last resort.' It is only a temporary shelter, and has performed as intended.

That's not true. Our carrier after the tsunami hit took days to get to the scene. You don't handle an operation this large overnight.

"In 2001, FEMA warned that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S. But the Bush administration cut New Orleans flood control funding by 44 percent to pay for the Iraq war"

Before we get carried away by Sid "Vicious" Blumenthal's rhetoric, let it be known that two relatively small breaks on two canals flooded most of the city. So how do we know that the 44% would have contributed anything to the safety of New Orleans?

Yes. You are right. But how's that supposed to help those who are trapped if she did know and the MSM Broadcasts it? The people trapped there aren't going to be watching the broadcast.

But absolutely, I agree your response would have been far better than hers. I'm cutting her some slack; she's just been through Katrina. Have no idea if she's had any rest at all. She's probably hanging on to her focus by mere strips, and mere rote operation.

DEMOCRATS, and probably the DNC, DO NOT want to make it appear as BUSH'S lifesaving operation, but their's. Mary L. just made a point to "Thank" Bush for his "Help" and to LET Larry know THEY were working hard! How many are going to die because of this absolute incompetence?

The spin has already started. Bush will be blamed because there was not enough evac personal, global warming, etc. The MSM has already picked it up, and by next week it will be in all the papers.

"I heard one of the people on I-10 and they said they came from the Superdome and had walked out."

Wow one whole person. Most of the ones I seen Shep interviewing were coming fromthe projects not the Superdome.

Most wanted to get to the Dome. Most had no idea where to go and just wanted to leave.

And the State trooper lady and no info for them.

The locals dropped the ball right there.

They had front-line real time intel and blew it off. I hope that lady was replaced on the spot by some sane individual in charge.

On WWL they are reporting that if you live in St. Bernard Parish that you better be prepared to rebuild because everything is underwater up to the rooftops.

The people on I-10 are not in immediate danger of drowning. The people still out on or in their houses *are*.

Police and government corruption in New Orleans is nothing new. Anyone dare to do a search on what sorts of shenanigans the levy board has been accused of?

Thanks for the info. I've also heard that pretty much most of Gautier and Ocean Springs are leveled as well.

"If you watched the news conference, it was hard to focus on what was being said because it was so distracting."

I know. I mentioned it to my wife, and she told me she was about to ask me what was up with that woman's face.

Has Mary Landrieu always had that tick, or is it something new?

The failing levees are a local problem.

The United States Corps of Army Engineers have been in there for years working on the levees. What you think about that?
