President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"To: jeffers
Yep....he co-opt'ed the Bash Bush crowd."
Six ways from Sunday. They are negated.
They seem to think that because he doesn't like to speak formally, that he also can't play poker, even though he always leaves the table with their shorts.
She also said there was nothing wrong with the cesspool (oops, "water") throughout the city, too. The woman is clueless.
Blanco estimates "thousands" dead in NO.
I don't know. Haven't heard I do know that the National Guard is in charge of the dome.
Cold man!
She is in Mississippi and wasn't expecting gas delivered. Did you even read her post?
Oh, please. As if I'm not for people getting rescued...give me a break. What I'm not for is shooting people for stealing. In this country, it's not a crime we give the death penalty for. Like I said, people should have a trial by jury and if you start have cops ranhdomly shoot people, it would make matters much worse. That is only common sense.
I repeat: the police will not allow you to get a can of gas. People were gouging, so they put a stop to that. You have to have enough gas to wait in line, or you don't get gas. I am very well aware that this is a disaster and I don't need you to tell me that. Several of my friends and co-workers are probably dead and many others have lost everything. I want to help them, but don't know how to do it if I can't even offer them a meal.
Okay. Either she is lying or we are getting some real bad information (someone else is lying).
I just had a call from my daughter's babysitter in Alexandria. I told her about KALB's newscast in which the law enforcement officials are vehemently denying an increase in crime here this week. She told me that she personally knew of two incidents at Super 1 Foods in which people had their groceries stolen from them.
If we don't get some help to the refugee families, the same people who were maxing out their credit cards for dinner at Applebee's on the first few nights of their hotel stay could potentially end up stealing to feed their children within a matter of weeks.
I noticed that after that bizarre newscast on KALB, they cut to a Hurricane Relief Fund telethon. I think it's a great idea to donate to an Alexandria-based telethon because it will keep the money right here where it's needed and I'll post the number next time it comes on the screen. It later occurred to me that perhaps KALB is suppressing the real story because they don't want to put telethon viewers in a less generous frame of mind.
Pardon the pun, but it's food for thought...

FOX correspondent Goldblatt was an eyewitness report of the Ak-47 wielding denizens. He wasn't making it up.
The guardsman was shot, without a doubt. Homeland Security confirmed in live national presser this p.m.
"Excellent rant, but what about Blinko-Blanco and Sen. Landrieu?"
They're democrats... thoroughly incompetent by definition.

2:11 P.M. - Blanco: Please stop broadcasting that there is "shooting in the Superdome." She said everyone brought inside was checked for weapons before entering. "There is no shooting inside the Superdome." She says the incorrect reports are upsetting the people inside of the dome who have been very calm.
Ironically enough, today is the first day that everyone in Texas (except Houston) that is a law abiding citizen can carry a pistol concealed in their cars - legally, without a permit.
(Yes, I know it was a clarification of the travelling law, but now it is codified)
