President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

The government sure as hell picked a great time to start following its own laws. If the government can ignore immigration law, why can't the ignore this one?
I have a really good friend who lives in Ridgeland.

translation = THE ADULTS ARE NOW IN CHARGE!
Blanco says no shooting in the dome. People were screened for guns before they went in. People in the dome are calm and hopeful now.
I didn't say that and I haven't seen it. But they were locking down the Dept of REv for a reason, not for precautions from what I hear. And things are tense at the River Center. People in and out, lots of cops, hostile crowd.
I wish you were right for all rumors. I really do.
Thanks for the on-the-spot report, cajungirl. I hope things stay under control in your lovely town.
Optimistic news!? Wrong thread buddy!
Blanco:
No shootings/rapings/pillaging at the Superdome
Everyon screened for drugs and weapons.
Rumors are upsetting people inside the dome ACCORDING the General.
National Guard is in charge.
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, get over it.
Excellent rant, but what about Blinko-Blanco and Sen. Landrieu?
Was the Nat Guardsman stabbed?
>>>Blanco says no shooting in the dome.
This IS a dry run for CA and NYC and DC and . . .
After the '89 Loma Prieta quake here in CA, we soon realized that, for the first 48 hours or so, we were on our own, could not or should not count on any "government" to help us make it through.
We all have emergency kits on hand, as we did before, because we know it will happen again. I cannot believe that those living in the Gulf Coast states, who get ample warning for hurricanes, would not be prepared, take no repsonsibility for their own welfare, and expect others to do it for them.
For those who are new to scanner listening, remember that just because you hear a report of something which may be happening and hear officers dispatched it does not mean the event will be substantiated or that circumstances are as originally reported.
We need to be especially diligent at this time to not run with rumors which may make things more difficult for law enforcement, rescue, and emergency personnel. All of us are hungry for info, but let's attempt to remain objective until things are confirmed. Free Republic is a widely read site.
OK.... ...its all bush's fault Yada Yada Yada... tell me keyboard kommando....what are YOU doing to help?
Stop your whining.
Blanco:
General says people have been well behaved inside the dome, and they are relieved the busses are arriving.
I have it on now. It's kind of running. You can see the military trucks in the middles of the street. I can't copy the pic though. I wanted to post it but media player doesn't have a copy thing or I just don't know how to use it.
I've only heard good things about Chertoff, although I shuddered when he said "Katarina" in his opening remark today.
