President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
That was corroborated by two reporters who were there when it happened. They were just on O'Reilly.
Thanks! I finally turned off cable news because I was tired of grandstanding from all of them. I have on WWL thanks to the links! :)
I saw a quick clip of something today where they were discussing moving prisoners to another location. But, this guy was giving specifics in numbers and to where. Not that they were releasing them freely.
Brit Hume said they have seen some gruesome scenes (bodies floating in the water) they have not shown.
The toll will shock us all, I fear.
Those require decisions. She's been in full passive-aggressive mode at least since the weekend, and possibly last Saturday and Sunday.
http://www.ptypes.com/passive-aggpd.html
"Here is a hypothetical profile, in terms of the five-factor model of personality, for Passive-Aggressive Personality Disorder (speculatively constructed from McCrae, 1994, pg. 306):High Neuroticism

querulousness

unaware of being incompetent"
IMO Blanco is the last female governor Louisiana will have for a long time - perhaps the rest of this century.
And, when her conduct in this crisis is analyzed, there is a reasonable possibility that this will result in no female governors being elected unless they have first demonstrated "macho" executive abilities. Most likely taht will take the form of military service, i.e., which pretty much limits the field to female Republican veterans.
Galveston 1900 and Texas City 1947 is forever etched in the minds of Texans charged with emergency planning. Never again isn't just a sentiment for them, it's a promise.
Thank you! Bayou La Batre suffered tremendus damage but is not a loss. Thats where I was born and raised.
That's what another reporter has said. Some left and went to the convention center so they didn't have to go to Houston -- I heard some of them interviewed and several said they were walking out of NO.
I have a feeling Homeland Security heavily leaned on all the networks not to show bodies.
Maybe it will shock us.... but why should the media censor their coverage??? This did not happen during 9/11 until afterwards where they stopped showing certain things. Most of us are grown ups and can take it.
I don't think her ineptness has anything to do with her gender; rather her overall ineptness as a decision maker.
From the way that guy from Houston described how they were setting up the Astrodome, it sounded like such a paradise I was about ready to go there.
Seems like Clinton used closed military bases for refuges from Bosnia.
Which suggests to me that the "looters" have graduated to rape, robbery and murder.
I have heard quite a few people today say they should have left and not ridden out the storm. They didn't think it would be this bad.
Martial Law will allow them to shoot on sight any curfew violators, IIRC.

Holy quake! Magma movement? A new volcano? They seem pretty shallow.
The FNC reporter from this morning said a woman had been raped on the road where he stayed overnight.
