President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Texas now has another border to worry about. This is bad, real bad. A walking crime wave is about to hit the rest of this country.

I've got a feeling that Texas will deal with these theives appropriately.

Do you have any concrete articles, etc., that you can point us to on this topic?

Yeah, I'd like to see that article too.

I love how people will rob, steal, maybe even kill, but then they are hesitant to lie and evade rather than not tell the truth and outright lie. I call it Bill Clinton's disease.

"Or maybe they managed to live through the stampede that happened inside the Super dome (several people are reported to have died during it) and decided they would take their chances by not going to a New Dome with those same stampeding pron folks. I know I would be looking for an alternative."

Oh believe me. I understand and I would have had a real hard time going to the Dome (and then to another one), but there are times when people must realize "it's not about me" and this is one of them.

Maybe they should have to pass a drug screen to get a bed inside the Astro Dome.

I was watching WWL online while I was at work. It isn't as repetitive as the cable networks and they are local people who know the area.

Help me out here - trying to piece together this story...

Are you saying the first bus to arrive at the Astrodome was hijacked? WTF?

They were told to evac. The people found a way to evac. The mayor didn'to ffer a way. I think good on them for figuring it out, they put an unused bus to work. What makes them criminal for wanting to get out of that cesspool that is NO right now? They need to be treated as refugees needing our help. THESE ARE OUR FELLOW COUNTRYMEN people.

Again, it'd be different if they commandeered the bus and landed at a major strip club asking for help.

We're getting a bit too hardhearted, here.

Yeah truly heartbreaking and there are a few FReepers(?) posting in this thread on how these poor folks should know exactly where to go because it is "painfully obvious" what should be done and "painfully obvious" where they should all go. I wonder sometimes how some of these naysayer types manage to navigate a keyboard to type? You would think mouth-breathers like that would have trouble with simple manual skills.

I heard a reporter today asking a couple with a 3 year old child, who didn't even look conscious, if they knew where they could go, or what to do. They said, "no!". The camera crew had given them a small carton of chocolate milk and she was using the coolness of it as a cold compress on her child's face. The heat, no water or food.

I've heard the same thing you have from some of our FReepers (?)...yes, makes you wonder about them. I was sickened last night on another thread by what I was hearing. Some of them are known FReepers who love to be cruel, but I didn't recognize a few of them.

Anyhow, good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise (my mother's saying and so fitting today), those that are coldhearted will stay off these threads and find something else, or another victim to use, to amuse themselves.

"I saw the looters stole a USPS truck to get their loot around the city."

I guess they were too dumb to realize the serious Federal statues they were violating in regard to messing with the USPS.

"But why should a 'renegade' bus be turned away?"

Because it is apparently a STOLEN bus. I don't think they should turn them away. I think they should all be arrested. Nice cool cells in the Harris County Jail.

Anybody here besides me comparing the behavior of the citizens of NYC after Sept.ll with the behavior of N.O. residents this week?
