WSB, via Hannity, reporting that a urban legend is going around about gas shortages, causing a panic in people, who are rushing to gas stations. Reporter said regular gas prices at one station was above $4.

You should see it here. People are acting like soylent green was being handed out. Literally 40 deep at the pumps and sticking out into major roadways causing accidents.

It is very true and it ain't pretty. Both the "Colonial" and "Plantation" pipelines running north and east out of New Orleans are shut down and without power. One of the two was operating until yesterday on mobil emergency backup power generation system which has been now been shut off. Rumor has it generator is being moved to SPR to help pump crude.

There's an easy way to put a stop to this. Simply get enough people to permanently (and very publicly) boycott any station that ran its prices up to $4 per gallon, and it would be over in a couple of days.

I'm talking about a case where the $4 price reflects impulsive price hikes to take advantage of a rumor, of course. If the real "market" price is $4, then there isn't a damn thing anyone can do about it.

Fox News just said they saw one Gas Station at $5.57 a gallon. I do not think its an urban legend. Also Neil Cavuto had a reporter report $3. and I can't remember how many cents.

My girlfriend and I are going to car pool in order to reduce our fuel cost, and cut back on eating out.

You know if the government CARES so much about the gas prices, they why don't they cut back some of our taxes?

I'd be shocked if the city even had a 10-day supply. That seems like an excessive inventory in this day and age of refined logistics and delivery networks.

What most people don't understand is that the largest supply of gasoline in the U.S. -- by a very wide margin -- is the combined fuel that is "stored" in the gas tanks of all our vehicles.
