Late Tuesday, Gov. Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher described a disturbing scene unfolding in uptown New Orleans, where looters were trying to break into Children's Hospital.

Bottcher said the director of the hospital fears for the safety of the staff and the 100 kids inside the hospital. The director said the hospital is locked, but that the looters were trying to break in and had gathered outside the facility.

No Children's Hospital Looting 4:35 p.m.

Doug Mittelstaedt, vice-president of Human Resources for Children's Hospital in New Orleans, said one of the biggest issues at the hospital on Wednesday was debunking the prevalent rumor that looters had stormed the hospital.

Mittelstaedt said things actually were operating smoothly at the hospital - the generator was running efficiently and efforts to relocate patients were going well - but fighting the rumor was a major issue.

Officials had to lock the doors of the hospital because people had arrived, apparently thinking there was a mob scene and they could get in on looting.

He said the hospital has been flooded with calls offering assistance from other Children's Hospitals in Louisiana and Texas. "The amount of calls we have gotten for support have been overwhelming," Mittelstaedt said. "The phones literally have been ringing off the hook."

With so many calls, Mittelstaedt said officials have been able to match up the 100 patients with hospitals that specialize in the particular treatments for each.

"...these creatures are no longer human and need to be dealt with as if dealing with an wild and uncontrolled animal."

The dems don't like to shoot their voters.

Maybe she could take a break for a few minutes from being on television and see to it.

Ouch.

"I still say there's something fishy about this story."

I wonder if it's a case of a group people panicking trying to get into tall stable buildings, and the staff being afraid of them - I didn't see if any were carrying guns or not, but we've all been conditioned to fear anyone but police or our military who are carrying weapons...

You're your own "grammar police."

It's only been a day and the National Guard and Coast Guard have been busy rescuing people. I don't know that anybody expected the situation to deteriorate this quickly, I sure didn't.

Authority is still in the Governor and Mayor's hands, I guess. They need to call in the Feds to take over.

"I wonder if I could loan the hospital my belt-fed MG? "

A wise man once told me that there are few problems in life that can't be solved by a well maintained belt fed weapon.

I don't have that kind of permit... I have to make do with a rifle and high-cap magazines. Oh well, you what you can with what you've got.

Isn't tomorrow Welfare Payday? I guess that they know the checks won't be in the mail.

God help anyone who ever tried to harm my kids. Especially if they were sick and vulnerable. Me as a mom if I thought my kids were in danger from looters would get there by any means possible if I was not already there and be on those cretins like white on rice. If I was at the hospital I would find some way to make consider the looters fair game. A few homemade " cocktails" thrown there way might discourage them.

How about euthanasia? Trouble is, that hospital doesn't have dart guns...but they could improvise.

"Something here doesn't smell right. Why would anyone want to loot a hospital? "

They want the drugs, the kids, and the women.

Some of them probably want the men, too.

Gosh, had not thought about the drug addicted. All drugs also have been lost. Can you imagine the drug dealers finding their stash has been destroyed?

Folks, this is a preview of what we will face during a massive nuclear strike or bombing of our cities.

And to think, I was worried that this situation would be twisted to make W look bad.

You haven't been to the DU swamp lately. It's ALL Bush's fault. He should have waved his magic wand by now and fixed this mess!!!
All those unemployed democrat voters couldn't get out. Had the tax payers coughed up more cash for their government checks, they'd all be safe by now.

Oh come on, we could fly an apache in there no problem.

I don't favor shooting looters indiscriminately, but if they are trying to break into a hospital, I think something needs to be done.

It was reported today that LA has at least 75% of its National Guard available and another 100,000 NG troops available nationwide. The real crisis is only 24 hours old and it is impossible to mobilize that quickly. Yes they could send thousands running in willy nilly but that would be an exercise in futility.

"Maybe all are unarmed, with no security at all."

Only police are allowed to be armed at hospitals... not docs.

Am I wrong in concluding that if hospital employees and visitors were equipped with firearms, it would not be targeted, and those 100 kids and others inside would be safe from these thugs?

I said that yesterday and people screamed like stuck pigs... but, it's true. It resulted in the first LA Riot, the second LA Riot and things continue to deterioate... when you put people in project-housing and give them handouts they don't learn how to deal with day-to-day life.... and these are the same people who think looting WalMart or the local WinDixie is okay...
