The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Yes, and they're owned by corporations. Let the request be made publicly for them to help, and let them take the PR hit for daring to turn it down.

I'm betting they're all booked.

You've asked that question several times now, with no answer. As you may have guessed from the silence, the answer is: we don't know.

The BBC is showing pictures of a building collapse in Biloxi and other destructions scenes, noting the heroism and the looting. Bush was shown saying the priority is saving lives. The BBC noted some towns are completely cut off.

Another BBC correspondent in NO said that the rate of water rise seems to have leveled off where he is, and estimated that over 100 died in MS, but said there is no good count of this.

How many Cruise ships actually fly the AMERICAN flag, any more?? Even Taking over a Bahamian ship, like one of the Carnivals, would be an act of war...

That's when we get our UN guy to call their countries "stingy."

Just heard on WLS radio out of Chicago, that there are as many as 60,000 people in the Superdome now, and that people are still being sent there.

Also saw some video of a prison, the inmates are waiting to be rescued. Were huddled on the top floor is what it looked like from the aerial view.

After this hurricane has just passed through the Carribean? I don't think they're able to keep to their schedule...

Talk about debris & oil in the water.... at Pearl Harbor ships not harmed or crippled, manuvered through and got out safely.

The USS Nevada was in a really tight spot but managed through the debris of sunken ships, fires, bombs, oil, gas, you name it.

I suppose there could be some ships that have to cancel if their ports of call are not available, so you may have something.
