The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

To ALL...

I've been gone for a while....

Am I just imagining it? Or are the reporters all fleeing New Orleans?

Shep has been standing on that highway giving location information - speaking to a police officer ...

And that public official, the police officer, has no more power to get supplies than does the state police woman later interviewed.

The big lesson, IMO, is to learn self-reliance, and admit that public coordniated efforts can not be reliably well-executed. The organized effort is very well intentioned, but can't reasonably be expected to get everything right.

Yes, but since it's a Dim-dominated city, what makes you think they have actual bullets? Like, that could hurt their constituents! (Criminals) /sarc

It makes me wonder what might have happened if Katrina had not been weakened at the last minute and had slammed the coast with a full 5.

Those with the means and resources to help could easily be discouraged from doing so because of the looters/ hi-jackers.

Unfortunately, the looters have too many apologists.

At this point, *everyone* who is left (except the looters) are trying to get out.

***Becoming all to clear that the LA elected officials had no idea what they were doing, unbelievably sad..***

These people live in Hurricane Alley, and the city doen't even have pre-positioned WATER?

Even Indianpolis has some limited stocks of water or MRE's before they have to start robbing the Wal-Marts!

What Democrat idiot is going to take the blame for decades of improper planning?

I mean think about it, we are literally witnessing a city dying right before our eyes, imagine if CNN was around during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, or Galveston or the Johnstown Flood. This could wind up making those three seem pale in comparison.

This fellow (and more like him) may well be a lot more effective than spineless, pandering elected officials in Baton Rouge steeped in and handcuffed by their political correctness when it comes to looters and public security:

But who gives the order? When is the order?

"I think a lot of our priorities just got rearranged." Agreed. I had a call yesterday from a friend who called me and said after seeing this tragedy he feels very lucky to have a home, a job, a family, and friends. Just the basics.

Damn straight- we're cool, dry, and have a sound roof over our heads. That Angusburger I had for lunch? There are probably over a million people on the Gulf Coast who would kill for one, and think it a meal fit for a King.
