The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

The lack of refining capacity in the U.S. is becoming less of an issue as time goes on. The U.S. is now at a point where it doesn't just import raw crude oil -- we also import refined gasoline from other countries, too.

At some point in the future I can envision a scenario where we import 100% of our oil products, including gasoline.

I don't know about Chavez, but the Iran offer was from a satirical article I posted. There is no offer from Iran.

Then shame on you!!

Please start a "hurricane humor" thread. The Live Thread has a purpose - news, analysis and background to help us understand and hopefully do constructive things to help matters.

You have misunderstood me. I think that it is wonderful for people to open up their homes. I just think that it is going to be a very long time before these poor people are back on their feet. I really do not know what the answer is.

FEMA caravans are enroute to the North Shore, and other affected areas....

Good. The topic in question was the use of cruise ships. What's the composition of the FEMA caravan? Ground transport, boats, or what?

They had a scare last year that something like this might happen

That was the first time I saw that NO was in a bowl surrounded ny water

That scare SHOULD have had the officials getting ready for what the hell could/did happen

THere ought to be a national campaign to urge people not to build and continue to move into these type areas

Here in the east vacation homes still go up at the Jersey Shore

Well, as long as you are sending an e-mail (which I think is great), send another to Wolfie - he SET UP that question. Good Lord, it was so OBVIOUS. I can act better on stage than that, and be a hell of a lot more convincing!!!

And yes, I will be sending an e-mail to Wolfie telling him how transparent he is. As I said on an earlier comment, I switched channels after that crap, and won't go back. I get all I need right here on FR.
