The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Yes, that's me. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate them.

Unembalmed bodies retain bacteria in the tissues and the lower cavities for a very long time after death. As long as the tissue gas is present, the body will float.
I didn't sense cracking up .. I think he's desperate to get these folks some help... It has to be frustrating for the reporters.. they can only do so much and there are so many people.
You could hear the frustration in his voice.
Hoo-rah! US Military on the scene...
no way. I was impressed with McHale from Dod at the Chertoff press conference. He understands the laws as to how the military and guard are to be used. let that dimwit Blanco issue shoot to kill orders on the looters, the media will tar Bush with it if he federalizes it.
Because then he would be acussed of keeping a chopper out of service for rescue
Amen!!!!! Somebody needs to kick the butts of the folks in charge. I have been watching these people standing there all day and Shep is right no one has come to show them or tell them what to do or where to go!! I have seen private citizens helping others with floating bins carrying elderly ladies across the water and others with boats lined up to go into the water from a freeway onramp to search. Where is the help from the city or state??
Rightly accused, too. He has no business getting in peoples' way down there, and he's shown that he knows that.
Two Day sis my guess!
This is what the NEWS People should be doiong SCREW THE REPORTING! They are on the frigging front line! Use that communication link for some good raher thean blathering on about the destruction!
Point the authorities to where help is needed!
The people in control the government are blind at the moment! They have no communications to speak of. However the NEWS services are set up for remote REAL TIME full blown communications! Use EM!
Funny, FEMA lined up 500 busses in 36 hours
The President has already flown over. He ordered the National Guard in on Sunday Night. He cannot exactly LAND anywhere...too much trouble getting necessary security as they are all, as they should be, doing more important things. 5 PM tonight is good for a speech.
thats what i ment to say
I wondered if they saw all the buses at the Superdome evacuating people and didn't know what was happening or why.
Depends on where the blimps are...
Glad to see Shep is an advocate for these poor suffering people. They are not all looters. Vast majority just need help now. Vast problem.
they arent going to shoot any looters...unless fired upon....
Well...you know what plans are for- to have something to change when facts present themselves:)
If they are dead from dehydration- evac'ing them will be un neccesary
