The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

So am I correct in thinking that NO and the state of LA have NO plan in the event of hurricanes?

If they had one they sure didn't put one into action. No. Seems the plan was "it'll turn."

The situation in NO is a terrible, terrible tragedy.

Watching Shep, and a woman from the projects was crying for help.

If there was a mandatory evacuation then why didn't the Mayor send buses to clear out these poor people since they had no way of leaving on their own!

The announcements that the water level was equalized with the lake and was no longer rising it actually great news. It means that water is not coming in from the river. Or, at least, the water from the river is not having a significant impact. The river level is higher than the lake.

True. But currently part of the pressure is equalized even though the river is considerably higher. What happens when the lake water is drained, the pressure becomes increasingly enequal and BOTH sides of the levees are saturated with water?

Getting federal help now..I assume that means military.

Speaking of the military, I really feel for those military overseas who are watching their homes & neighborhoods and not being able to dig in & help.

Shep is beginning to crack up on the air.

Understandably so in this case.

How long have those projects been flooded? I wonder how long they've been waiting for help.

We air dropped supplies and water during the Great Tsunami.

The plan might be to get these people out of NO before they have to bring in the water...

I'm frantic for these poor souls.

Yeah, NEXT time they'll evacuate for sure...duhhh.

Yes, this is great - excellent journalism from Shep.

But I have yet to see a NO official who is able to demonstrate even the tiniest level of competence. The policewoman he interviewed had absolutely no clue. Didn't even know how to BS.

Agree Mickie

There was at least a week when the mayor of NO and the Gov of LA could have lined up school buses, trains and tour buses to take ppl out of NO.

Where are all the school buses????
