The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I thought I heard last night that he had heard from his mother and she was okay? Have things changed since then? I've never seen a "public" figure go through so much pain.

Surprised only Fox News and the local NBC station in Milwaukee (WTMJ, which has news on at this time of the day) are carrying it. The sister radio station (WTMJ-AM) also broke in.

No. Apparently regular, corded phones.

Which brings up an extremely important preparedness tip: be sure that you have at least one corded phone in your house!

Cordless phones won't work without power. Corded phones get their power through the phone lines. If you have phone service at all, a corded phone will work.

Anybody know anything about Bogaloosa, LA? I have a friend with family there, and all she knows is that the McDonald's near them was nailed by one of three tornadoes there.

she's gonna need a bigger mop

LOL! I'm thinking of the line from Jaws ("You're gonna need a bigger boat.")

None of these peole are going to be able to take this stuff into a shelter or on an evac bus. They don't have homes to go back to to store this stuff. Are they just going to walk around NO (w/the water rising) w/their boxes of Nikes and TVs?

A friend in the Oklahoma Army National Guard has got his call. When he asked if it was the 4 hour standby they said if they call back he won't have 4 hours. I wish I could go, could use the target practice

You know what else I thought about putting on that preparedness list? An inflatable raft and oars!

50 people at his home.

No food there is no store left.

Not like you can go to McDonald's and get a biscuit.

One loaf of bread left.

This happening all over the area.

Favre: 50 people are living in his house. They have nowhere else to go. They have one loaf of bread left. There is no store left to buy food.

Going to have to start from scratch to rebuild town. A friend who is staying with him is 8 mos. pregnant. Memorial Hospital is completely demolished. She's concerned she'll have baby at his house.

Says the worst is yet to come.

Yes. They are debating a report on the possible death toll on another thread. But, I think we are talking of staggering numbers here. The surge was apparently unprecedented. Today we stop hearing about Camille forever.
