The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

I hate to bring this into this discussion but the FOX guy was talking about 500,00 displaced persons.
The biggest argument I hear in favor of legalilizing the illegals is they will do the job no one else will.
Many citizens will need those jobs.
This is a great object lesson in electing women to high office. Very, very few have what it takes to get through horrors like we are seeing here. The mayor of LA isn't much better, but I haven't seen him crying yet.
Yes, I have been following that thread. One cannot and should not summarize 1295+ threads there, so let me try anyway.... ;)
It has become a who said what and prove it. The problem is that no one knows it is true in sense that there is no other supporting evidence - yet all fear the worst - and still hope it is not true. MFH stands by source. And over time, there may be that many casualties. Apologies to contributors there if I misstated.
Snipers are keeping police at bay????
What can possibly be left to loot?
I just saw that the Superdome bathrooms are wrecked and other damage...
I bet the Astrodome wouldn't offer its space if it knew what it was in for....
That's encouraging < /sarcasm>.
A huge caravan of busses has reached the Superdome. It's purpose is to evacuate the Superdome. Obviously, a road has been opened leading into the city. Busses and emergency services vehicles -- and some news satellite trucks -- are pouring in.
Saw this on Fox a short while ago. They have been late getting serious about covering this disaster, but as of a few minutes ago, their coverage was the best of any other TV news outlet. One of their satellite trucks has made it in and is broadcasting from right outside the Superdome.

I am a woman, and she is making a mockery of those of us that are strong, upstanding, and good decision makers. Some of us have done tough emergency response and are dang good at it. I'd bet she never attended any type of EC training in her life.
"Thanks for your reasonable observation."
And thanks to you for staying level, too! But your dread is not misplaced there.
In meantime, we can do something constructive. For one, see AliVeritas' list of places to contribute.

NN, did you get that also on your thread here?
Is that total from Sunday or another from this point? Here in suburban Milwaukee, where we have a very special version of the Algore Memorial Whittman Gas, it's already gone up 45-55 cents since Sunday.
You summarized that thread well, and I'm happy to be taking a break from it!
The thing is, nothing in MFH's original post is that far-fetched at all, with what is slowly leaking out as communications become better restored to the area.
