The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
A new hurricane will not hurt many of the structure much because they are under water, and thus "protected." How is that for an rejoinder from behind the looking glass?
Near as I can tell from the article about improvements they were making for the levee system, I know where the 3000 pound sandbags came from that were used in the abortive attempt to fix it. They were the ones that the city was supposed to put in place BEFORE the storm hit to make up for the construction work. I'm guessing here, but I think the ones that were supposed to place them did not do it.
What you said!
All the cameras were inside New Orleans proper, and all the contraflow started outside of town.
Believe me, I love it too. This is awful. Some guy I work with was laughing about it, making jokes. That's what told me some people really, really don't give a flip. That's really sad to me. This is apparently no different than some third-world disaster that they feel totally detached from. I hope people like him are in the minority.
Not according to the mayor. Not according to some psots here. They're loooking for a barge to sink. If that doesn't work, they'll do the sandbags.

per your link:
Blanco said part of the population in the Dome are people who do not have any regard for others. But many good people also are living in the Dome, she said, including mothers with babies.
its got to be rough living with gangbangers, drug addicts, homeless, people with mental issues who are normally living under a bridge.
BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco called for an evacuation of the 20,000 storm refugees from the Superdome after she visited the hurricane-damaged stadium Tuesday evening for the second time of the day.

Get it?
"CNN will pop up with that comment followed by: they [the NG] are all in Iraq so can't protect the good people of No."
Funny you should say that. My mother and I were discussing the horrible devastation and she came up with the comment that they're aren't enough National Guard to help out because so many are in Iraq! Guess where she gets all of her tv news: CNN!
Please stop these senseless attacks on Wal-Mart shoppers.
Right. Are you going to tell us what the plan is?
Absotively!
Thanks for the info!
Just has to be the explanation for such blatant stupidity. It is actually stunning.
