The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Rudy works for me! That woman is supposed to provide strength to the people of LA and she is wimpy.
He is isn't he?
I'm scared to death to hear the death toll after this can be discerned after a while. I'm heartsick.
Bump.
It would be very overwhelming and she likely does not have the experience that someone like Rudy or Jeb has in dealing with something of this magnitude.
I believe that's why President Bush was so proactive in taking the lead to begin with.
Another point is that we continue to focus on New Orleans, probably the most developed city of those directly affected. If New Orleans is bad--what about Gulfport and Biloxi, and the small areas in between?
There was a photo of a guy with a bucket of beer, and I believe the caption did say he had "looted" it.
"To: jeffers
Some filling stations closed in Indiana, signs posted saying "no gas".
Wow. That's enough to start a PANIC!"
It's too early for real shortages to actually reach this far north. Something else is up. Possibly fears for future supplies, but we still have gas, "in the pipelines" so to speak, but it is a warning of what we might expect in the days to come.
Although there hasn't been the same number of casualties, it seems to me that this is going to be worse in economic, historic, and cultural terms.
I think the city is lost. I just don't see how they can rebuild to what it was before, and there is so much history that is gone. For example, I stayed in a youth hostel that used to be a Confederate civil war hospital. It was rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of dead soldiers.
If the water stays high for weeks, how can that possibly be saved?
Nature has a way of showing this all the time. By the way, I think there are two other depressions out there.
(Per WWL TV just now)
Because of a lack of functioning jails, police, or what not, looters are being 'ticketed' or warned, on the hopes that they can be dealt with later. Nobody is being arrested.
No looters are being shot on sight. (The situation is not under control: my take).
Fox's schtick is opinion journalism. They don't have the investment in newsgathering to be a serious "big story" network. And this is a story in the US.
A foreign story would be even worse. Fox is good at what it is, a place where political ideas can be fought over.
SD
Brand new footage on CNN right now Biloxi
It's not so much about the partisan politics. It's about watching your state reap the fruits of years of corruption and incompetence. We had the opportunity to elect someone who was able to think on his feet, he had a plan of action because it was discussed in a political debate. Instead people couldn't see past their own prejudices and partisan politics. My very liberal sister now gets it. These pols could bus the voters to the polls but they couldn't bother to bus them out to save their lives.
Cavuto should stop whining. We don't help other countries because we expect them to help us back. It's nice if and when they offer (and they will), but we're big enough to handle it ourselves if they don't.
I know everyone's picking on the gov. right now, but we have to understand she's getting information and a prognosis much quicker than the MSM.
If this is an indication, I would not be surprised if they've been told the city's going to be a total loss in the coming days and now they have to get everybody out, no matter what.
She's frigging genius! THAT never occurred to me before as something that needed to be done. What in the world would we do without Blanco's razor sharp, Swiss watch, computer fast, brain?
Oh No!!! You all have the cheapest gas in the country.
My sister in law and I decided when we visiting a couple of weeks ago that we would get a job at one of the truck stops changing the sign. A full time job.
NPR is starting to talk about damages, I think estimates of $125 billion. A problem is that the communications network is completely gone. People are being evacuated from New Orleans. DHS is sending resources to the Katrina-affected area. Atlanta FEMA said prepositioned supplies are being disbursed, but that rescue is the priority. They said it is too early for assessments or casualty counts. Bush was speaking in San Diego earlier today.
I am noting NPR because FM radio and batteries may be the only way people are getting current news in certain Katrina-affected areas.
Some of those folks that voted for her because the other guy wasn't white, are getting it back in spades as this dingbat is incapable of leading the state right now.
I saw this in the previous thread. Do you have any links, name of authors, or anything I can use to read further into this?
