The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Exactly. And they likely did evacuate. No ground crew, a flight is not functional.
Blanco needs to point fingers at anybody she can to cover her own incompetence at not demanding that New Orleans evacuate early on Saturday.
If Max Mayfield tells you it's coming, IT'S COMING!!
hey my mistake was listening to nancy grace screech..rattled my brains...anyway I posted it earlier today and I think yesterday too...
Do not toss a grenade into this thread then clam up! If you don't have any relevent facts or links, save it.
The CNNN truck stealing thing was with Tuchman's truck in MS. They have a lot of gas drums/tanks which he said is common when covering a hurricane. Some lady got up on the truck to try to steal them. They said Hey what are you doing and she responded that she needed them.
In another day or two, complete lawlessness will exixt in NO -what's left of it, that is.
It's the "bad" choice, compared to the "even worse" choice.
I played w/part of it, but am no grafix guy by any means.
Hope this doesn't merely add to the general confusion.
What's below is #5 (at the bottom of the page) in that big link, and evidently the spot most of the inflow is coming from...
Governor blaming AIRLINES for not getting people out on Sunday Morning??
The same governor who's own solution was to pray that the winds die down?
The same governor who said "We can make this a good
experience?"
You're right. Besides, the ONLY people the airlines could have flown out of N.O. are the ones who had reservations. And how many, may I ask the officials, would that be? They talk like the airlines should have been responsible to evacuate all of the citizens of New Orleans! I hate when people point fingers at everybody else.
Exactly - and why can't there have been more of a Plan B for levee breaks? I saw one report that the hlos were diverted from plugging the hole because the snadbags were not there.
What I did read, however, is that it wasn't expected to hit NO until Sat. a.m. and that's when the evac order was given. I don't know, otherwise, unless that's not true...but, I think it is.
The woman is a coward.
Right, he should at least be sandbagging breeched levees. CNN gets a dig in every chance it gets.
Dear God, I will not judge anybody in that place, honest...
The enormity of this catastrophe doesn't escape W for one minute .. he and Max Mayfield had to BOTH call Nagin to get him off his butt to declare mandatory evacuation, when his incompetence prevented him from taking charge of the impending disaster. Having said that, I'm sure politics will rear it's ugly head. Nothing can be done about that .. no matter what W does, he's gonna get slammed.
I watched the video in shock at the devastation throughout the area.
An elephant in the room.... It's not really a race thing, though -- it's cultural, and for various reasons (mainly political) inner-city black folks are probably only a few years ahead of the rest of us in terms of cultural breakdown.
""Where do we go now? Nobody tells us where to go."
"
Liberal government in action, what the hell would we expect?
"You know you're in trouble when the politicians start resorting to honesty!"
Earlier the mayor was giving bureacratic talk. This time he was plain talking. Refreshing - I know that's just his story, but it seemed plausible.
Absolutely.
From what I understand, in order to declare a mandatory evacuation, you have to have a place to house people.
I bet there was plenty of politics and plenty of plans to lay this at his feet, but he is pretty innocent.
When they have hearings on this, and they will, I hope he throws the whole lot of them under the bus.
He knows things.
