The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
I have been stunned by both of those people. When he said not to go to the Superdome but to the 2nd floor of your property my jaw dropped. Blanco is horrible and hard to believe she is the Governor.
Lack of leadership has sure been evident. Makes you wonder what would have happened if LA/NO had decent leadership in this tragedy.
You keep talking about a "lack of a plan"... and yet you denigrate "bureaucrats".
I see lots of finger-pointing bureau-speak, not just you, but all over these threads.
In emergency situations my NUMBER ONE peeve are the finger-pointers. They are the ones that are the most useless ones in the room. Lots of that here today.
Displeased....??
...thin ice?????...huh!
Thanks to Bush, there was much proactive elements put in place before the hurricane even hit!
What is he suppose to do when the governor of Mississippi says 'wait'.
Give him a break!
This allowed FEMA to allocate monies and allowed them to get things in motion to be there as soon as they could.
Idiot.
"If your definition of short order is two months, I would agree.
That is approximate time that forced labor spent in Chernobyl on concrete shield"
Before the shield, there was a simple burial mound of lead and concrete.,
Thank God for some sanity. Why the POTUS needs to be there is beyond common sense! That visit would only make more head aches and resources taken away from where they are needed. Leave it to the Democrats to lack basic common sense, or be the maggots they are, and try to make a polical issue out of something that is a tragedy.
Water now above sea level. Larry King on CNN...
Could you believe that? She was griping about cancelled flights, saying airlines should have flown in empty planes and flown people out?
Hey, Katie? I'll bet you didn't think to call Gerard Arpey, CEO of American, and say you'd pay to dead head planes into MSY to get people out, did you?
The airlines are running on cash-flow fumes, and you want airline operations to dig up some assets at the last minute, fly them into New Orleans, and take people out, basically for free?
This woman is an ignoramus!
Did he just tell people to evacuate? I wonder where he would have them go? The dome? This is pitiful....just pitiful!
half-crippled/semi geezer? Oh comeone ya ole tomCat...!! LOL...Sorry but I think I'm over the limit on here tonight. I'm getting punchy...
we don't need an address to congress, just a 10 minute primetime speech on this, with network coverage, so the sheeple actually know what is happening in their country.
I missed that - good grief, can we trade this mayor for Rudy? This disaster is reenforcing how much of a leader he was during 9/11.
But, he was a Republican ;0/
> This is not rocket science - even the russians mangaed to bury Chernobyl in millions of tons of concrete and lead in short order.
Ahem, methinks your memory is a bit clouded on that one. The casualties from Chernobyl far exceeded anything this hurricane can drum up. And furthermore, the concrete that covered Chernobyl was put there by guys on suicide missions... that is to say, they went and dumped their load, knowing that they would be dead in a week if they entered the facility.
Exactly. Not that a chopper would have to have an airport, but aren't both of them (New Orleans) under water currently? Guy on CNN was a cad.
Above what they were this afternoon? They were 3 feet above sea level this afternoon, maybe 4 feet. That is why when the mayor said a couple of hours ago that the waters could rise to 3 feet above sea level, and to get to high ground, it was odd, because the waters have been there for hours. I guess dismissing the Missisippi levee thing is a mistake. It would be nice for somebody somewhere on this planet to say something cogent on this minor little matter, if only to satisfy my curiousity, as opposed to giving the folks in the bowl an update on their fate.
I thought I heard her say that. And my jaw hit the floor.
"But, THIS IS AN ADDRESS TO THE NATION SITUATION."
"I agree totally. This is a major disaster for parts of our country."
No.
And just precisely what could the President tell us that we can't all see on TV or the internet? He had soothing and concerned words this morning. This is NOT a similar scenario to 9/11 at all. He cannot declare war on nature.
Let's face it, the feds are going to have to take over because both the city and state leadership sounds clueless. So let's allow time for the President's men to get in place and get things under control before we start carping because he hasn't let us in on all the details.
Amen!
Haley said George W. was "chomping at the bit" to come down, and he asked him not to.
The President has been on this for three days at least.
