The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Forget about the West Coast ships. They are (1) slower to get there and (2) needed elsewhere (yes, even the older LPD rustbuckets).

East Coast is a different matter, and some ships could be made available if that was deemed to be the optimal plan.

Car-jackings by people trying to flee the city.

Help me out here. City is underwater isn't it?

Where are cars driving around to get jacked?

Well...given the choice between rescuing a seal and people it seems like a pretty easy decision.

I guess the PETA disaster team is having trouble getting into the area?

You and me both! Feel much better. Advance team is already in place and will call the shots when it is clear. They are helping out themselves like they have in the past until the President comes into the area.

CNN had a reporter on that is reporting three looters have been shot near the Super Dome.

Sadly that is going to take place make an example of them(looters)...hang a sign on each one of them "I Looted" Take a picture copy it and handout and post on poles, buildings, and other places that people will see them in dry places w/caption:

"This will happen to you if you are caught LOOTING.."

Yes, for every hurricane that enters the gulf and comes any where near NO, all we hear about is how they are below sea level, yada, yada, yada ... it has been like that for DECADES so it isn't just the current administration - unless they or one before them nuked the plans and supplies because it cost too much to maintain them.

"The misunderstood fact is that these items are not just lying around waiting to be used. There are logistical items necessary before these short term fixes can be implimented - you just can't snap your fingers...... Its easy doing such back-seat flood control work whereas we don't have a clue from our computer terminals what is really happening or the full extent of the difficulties that will need to be overcome just to handle the basics."

Nothing you write convinces me there wasn't a screw up, now or in planning.

If the "bags" or whatever weren't prepositioned for a breach, in any kind of weather situation, the planning was third world grade.

So do the Mods actually sit someplace and have to read all these posts?

There's just one mod, and they're floating in water in a big dark sensory deprivation chamber with every thread and post routed to their brain directly through surgically implanted electrodes.

To: July 4th We are running out of gas in Wisconsin. Stories about gasoline shortages are popping up all over the country now.

I _LIVE_ in Phoenix, dude.

The spot shortages here are people panic-topping off at selected stations, mostly independent stations like Circle K that buy on the spot market.

Full Disclosure: My wife and I take turns biking to work. :-)

FNC talked about a group of City of NO 9-1-1 dispatchers that were told "you arent needed anymore" and send walking on the one freeway to Crescent City.
