The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
Do you feel like you've lost control?
The closest thing that the Navy has is the LHD 5 Baatan, which is already heading to stand by ready to assist.
Beyond that, any military ship with sufficient capacity to really help out takes longer to arrive. The nearest thing is the CV 67 Kennedy in Mayport, which was scheduled to decommission and thus probably would have to be restocked in order to come in, taking time.
More likely, LHD 7 Iwo Jima and its group ((including the lighter weight and potentially more-useful LPD/LSD/etc) may have a little detour before going overseas.
I do remember that.
What's happening on Cooper? I can't stand to watch it but will take reviews.
No museum ship is remotely operable without months to the better part of a year of refit and obscene amounts of money spent.
Thanks.
I don't EVER mess with authority!!! I was brunged up right! :))
View Partial Source? the best tool for serious Freeping.
He sounds like he's on speed or something... even more than usual.
Good to hear.
Duh! I'm too rattled to think right now. Thanks for the reminder.
DITTO!
I recall him issuing a statement that he did not want to disrupt the Fla efforts with a Presidential intrusion and only after things were stabilized did he come. Of course we had Jeb.
Maybe the uss jimah carter could pull in to help
With all the information available here, I will accept the charge that I am blind as well as stupid if someone will please post a link to a site where I can follow the track of this storm from this point on.
My parents live in New Orleans (Metairie). Mom had a stroke 4 years ago and is basically an invalid. Dad and Mom were supposed to stay at the Lake Edge Doubletree. Last I talked with him was Sat morning. When I called Doubletree Saturday night, they said he never checked in. Neither me nor my brother have heard from him since. They are now 4 days missing.
All the phones are dead in New Orleans so this makes it difficult.
Does anyone know who I can contact to find missing New Orleans Katrina family members? I keep calling the Red Cross general number 866-438-4636. I either get busy or in an infinite wait queue. My brother is calling Louisiana State Police, no word from him yet.
I am worried because my mom requires special care and my dad is very old. They could be safe or they could have been in an accident. I need some info on who to contact. Specific info as possible.
None of the people posting good info [thank you very much] about Katrina give their contact info, so I cannot contact them. Maybe you could post this plea for me. You can post my email.
Thanks

I'll shut up now, I just had a burst of strange thoughts in a row there, but no chemicals or alcohol were killed in this exchange.
Not really, no one is shooting at the rescuers. A stolen TV is not going to hamper rescue efforts in the least. At most they just need to keep their boats from being swamped.
No, the llama just grazes. The brother in law will take out a deer if he gets hungry enough. The llama is actually quite sweet but caused trouble the nite of the storm because the brtoher in law wouldn't let him sleep in the house per my sister's wishes. The trouble started because the llama won't go anywhere without his goat companion and the brother in law wouldn't allow the goat in. And that is when my sister was going to kill my brother in law. But the storm interfered, plus I think he has the key to the gun box. A wise man.
