Yes, she said it was still really windy...I saw on here that someone posted water up to the 2nd floor of the Beau Rivage Casino...if that is the case than the entire Penn. of Biloxi is under water.
There seems to be a difference of opinion on that question. But I think you're right. It could have been far worse.
Thanks for the info, I've gotten freepmails requesting any info on Slidell. Topo map suggests that most of the town is below 20' (though I-12 may have worked as a levee for the north side), don't know what the storm surge was forecast for there, but it ranged from 15' at NO to 28' at Gulfport.
Prayers headed your way!
Thank you very much for the report. Keeping you and your wife in our prayers.
Good grief, that's all the way over in Pensacola? Man, will they ever catch a break down there?

Oil rig damage
Oil companies said Monday that it was too soon to tell how badly their Gulf of Mexico rigs were damaged by Hurricane Katrina, but they vowed to assess the situation Tuesday and return to normal operations as soon as possible.
"It's important for us to get back to business as much as usual," said Tony Lentini, vice president of public and international affairs for Apache. "It's important to the country."
Apache shut down 336 of its 386 Gulf rigs because of the storm.

30,000 plus in town, 100,000 in the area. Lots of subdivisions.
The problem is, while some had their prayers answered, others were still left to face the wrath of this monster.
"I am looking for any information on Slidell and the north shore. I think it probably got a direct hit from the wall of the storm. This area has gone entirely unmentioned by the media and it may well turn out to have suffered the worst damage. Many, many people there didn't think they needed to evacuate. Please post what you hear."
You are not alone. There seems to be a growing no. of people posting looking for news on Slidell. Not much is coming out. This gives me a very bad feeling - no news is definitely not good news in this case. Whenever something re Slidell comes up, someone will post it I'm sure.
I think hurricanes tend to bounce off land a bit, and it looked like Katrina kind of did that around the Mississippi delta peninsula. That might not have happened if the eye had been 10 miles more west.
Gov of LA up now.
Please say a prayer for my son......he is at Camp Shelby, just south of Hattiesburg, MS & they are going through the worst of the storm right now........under a tornado warning...........
I heard FNC weatherbunny say it was trashed, showed a map and how it was in the path of the worst winds etc etc ....no pics or other direct reports seen just saw yer point at Sidell on her map......
Bottom line: God's will be done.
Please don't disturb us unless he decides to drill ANWR.
Anything less than that is the same lame game they've been playing for decades.
I don't see the jog, but the weakening of the storm right before landfall was massive, and that is what saved NOLA. And also made the damage elsewhere less than it could have been.
We're going to cancel our trip to the Gulf Coast next Monday. It's for the best.

Including gas station owners. On my way home for lunch I passed 6 gas stations. All but one had the same price as they did on Saturday. The one that did not, raised their price for regular by 20 cents since yesterday evening around 5pm.
Prayers for your sister.
