Category 4 Hurricane Katrina is approaching landfall in Eastern Louisiana. At 4:00AM EDT the storm's center was about 90 miles south of New Orleans.

I agree, a lot of those bricks were held together by nothing more than habit. Looks like NO is holding their own right now, but the surge reports NE of there are beginning to stack up.
Besides those issues, some of that surge had to make it into Lake P. with second landfall occuring south of Pearlington. Right now I'm hoping the drought absorbed most of that portion of it.
More than just 1/12 missing.
google earth has some fairly old pics, look at an area you know well that has had a large construction project and check how completed it is in the pic....
This is a real danger, often spoken of. People think it's calm so they venture out and get hit with another round.

That would be the fabric roof/sealer that got ripped off. The steel roof is still just fine except for a few missing panels and inspection ports.
From what I've read, none of this was unexpected. The engineers on scene aren't worried about it.
USS Alabama appears to have left port.
And the system is supposed to run into a front tomorrow, which means torrential rains.
I'm sure Jim has a few more episodes for his "Storm Stories" series.
If you know what an arch is, dead center of that roof is a keystone.
