Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Agreed. God is active in history and he does punish people with natural phenomena for sinning against Him. Is that what this is? Maybe. But, I wouldn't say it would be so much on New Orleans per say but on America for the many sins she has tolerated for some time. Between our abortions, our rapes, our murders, our promotion of homosexuality, and most recently and most significantly our betrayal of Israel by pushing her to give up Gaza and other pieces of Israel to terrorists, I believe what we are seeing at the least is a lifting of God's hand of protection. We scream out at every turn "we don't need God" then are perplexed that he might oblige us.

I pray that the people are spared. They break my heart. But when I heard Shep Smith's comments from the bar on Bourbon street earlier this afternoon, I couldn't help but think about Matthew 24:37-39
37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

So many are just brushing this off. Eating, drinking, shrugging their shoulders as they face a watery grave.

May God have mercy on our nation.

I'm very sorry for you. Very sad. The weather news remains very bad for NO. Pray it turns more sharply to the east and blows away the Mississippi casinos if you are selfish. But are know you are not. You just feel a personal pain, from which there is no escape. None.

...."And for all who are going to be impacted, I pray."

We are all going to be affected. Gas prices are only one thing that will be affected by the ruination caused by the storm and it's aftereffects. Everything that's shipped on the Mississippi will be affected. That means Walmart.

That hits home.

I feel sick when I see the people still walking around on the streets in New Orleans.

I don't even understand why the reporters are there - it's a bad example, and false sense of security.

High tide in the area is....7am cdt, on average. However, it's only about an 18inch tidal rise.

It's kind of funny you should mention that she calls him serpenthead. The very first time I ever saw Bill Clinton speak (TV), I thought HE looked like a serpent.

< Like NN, I took a nap & all heck broke loose??? ;-) >

The evening crew has been a bit wild compared to this morning and afternoon.

I've been here all day. I'm about to catch some shut-eye now. My bell rings at 5 am eastern.

Prayers sent upward for NO.

I use a skillet. I brown onion and bell pepper in butter along with kielbasa. Cook the beans seperate until soft and then add spices and veggies. Then I make a roux and add to the whole thing. In the south we use iron skillets for everything.

Sorry, but that's more of a Southern Kidney bean meal than traditional Cajun Red Beans and Rice. Cajuns would never use keilbasa (I don't think I've ever even bought it.) Andouille is the only thing to use. It sounds like you're trying to combine jamabalaya (which uses bell peppers) with red beans.

Here's my mom's recipe. (I'm Cajun on both sides) Soak 1 bag of red beans overnight. Sort out the bad beans. Combine beans with 1 can chicken broth and add 1 can water, 1 chopped onion and hamhocks to season. Simmer in crock pot until the mixture starts to boil. Turn down the heat and allow to simmer all day. An hour or 2 before serving, brown some andouille in a skillet and add to red beans. Serve over white rice with tabasco sauce and salt and pepper.

Okay, I have to log off now, and I don't know if anyone even cares what I have to say, but here goes: Yes, I will pray so hard that no one hurts or dies--human life is precious and worth more than any bricks and mortar.

And, so much history and culture in N.O. that could be lost forever. It would be a tragedy if it were gone.

A a big chunk of U.S. history torn out in a day?

Please. God, let that not happen.

Now, I'll put my kids to bed, while praying that this M************r of a hurricane doesn't destroy New Orleans and kill innocent people.

Prejudice? Are you intimating that only one ethnicity has a propensity for crack addiction?

If so, then you are the one that is racist.
