Political insiders mostly agree: Despite being an early front-runner for the 2008 Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton faces long odds of ever being elected president. But if she can't win, why can't she?
One facile argument, often voiced by Hillary-loathers on the right, is that she's too far to the left. The "real" Hillary is closer to Howard Dean than Bill Clinton, a recent piece in the National Review asserted. Wrong! An unhedged supporter of the war in Iraq, Sen. Clinton stands at the hawkish, interventionist extreme of her party on foreign policy. Despite her pandering vote against CAFTA, she's a confirmed free-trader and deficit hawk. On the cultural issues that often undermine Democrats, she seeks common ground, sometimes with flat-earth conservatives like Rick Santorum, and has been nattering about the "tragedy" of abortion. Even Hillary's notorious government takeover of health care was misconstrued as an ultra-lib stance. In opting for a mixed, private-public managed-competition plan, the then-first lady was repudiating the single-payer model long favored by paleo-liberals. Her plan was flawed in many ways, but it wasn't what Ted Kennedy wanted...

I was looking for Rush's program yesterday going to lunch.
I heard this voice that was clearly a satire of Clinton.
It sounded like the kind of satire that Rush produces.
Anyway, Bill shoots this man who speaks with a foreign accent.
Hillary says, "You didn't have to shot our BEST drug connection!"
Bill says, "Oh, didn't I, Hillary? Didn't I?"
Turns out the thing was on Air America. (I had fever and very bad symptoms for three hours after learning I'd been listening to AA.)
I'm watching. And I don't care. Hitlary! doesn't scare me at all.
Hillary is a sure bet for the Democratic nominee in '08. She will get the liberal vote and the womens vote, no matter what they say now. Mrs Clinton will look moderate enough to sway the 1/3 that are not R or D. She wins with a solid plurality. The only thing that can stop her is a Republican minority candidate like Colin Powell, or Condoleeza Rice.
After the surgery to remove the cloven hoves, the horns and the permanently attached dildo, ms rodham {daughter and lover of satan}, may be able to garner about 43% of the vote {like slick wille did}. In the absence of perot {or mccain running as an independent} 43% won't cut it.
We know the msm won't question her, report any truth that may be negative or tell any positive truths about the pubbie that runs against her, the American public, {ignorant as it is} still can't like this congenital liar.
All of the shrill rants that are alive and well on tape will come back to haunt her on Fox, the internet and radio.
The pubbies need a solid candidate {my hope is for Dr. Rice} but the elections are more than three years away and the events in the world have a way of changing so it's too early to spend any brain cycles worrying about her thighness.

Why can't she win? Because people who have never voted and never intend to vote again will show up at the polling sites to vote against her like they're cashing in a winning lottery ticket.

I underestimated these creatures in 1992. Again in 1996. After watching them for thirteen years on the national stage, and having talked to a number of Arkansans who assert that all their in-state time was exactly the same, I'll no longer underestimate them. They come out on top of EVERY situation they enter.
As I've said in another thread, I'm STUNNED by the people who pop off their mouths with things like, "Oh PLEASE let her be the Democratic nominee!" That allegedly politically astute people could be so naive is beyond me. She not only has a chance to be president; the only realistic challenger to stop her at this moment is Giuliani.
Here's what's gonna happen over the next couple of years (it's already begun): Hillary will adopt incredibly sensible sounding positions on every major issue. You will hear CONSERVATIVES say, "I never thought I'd say it, but you know what? She's right!" She will be the single most perfect sounding candidate to ever run for the office. The MSM will pull out all the stops and do everything they can to sell the image with near-orgasmic enthusiasm. It will be a propaganda campaign unlike anything seen on the planet before now.
And here's the most dangerous point: There is NOTHING she can say, NO position she can support, that will put a dent in her support from the left. They WORSHIP her. (I started to say they think she's just below God, but for the ones of them who do believe in God, she's probably above Him in their eyes.) Her support from Democrats is automatic, a given. She can focus all her energy on the middle and the right, and she's gonna be strong as garlic in the middle with her new common-sense populist image. She even has a realistic chance to pull some from the right.
The bottom line is that a Hillary presidency is at this point not only possible, but likely. Horrifying, but there it is.
