I am a white male.
I'm pleased with the appointment, subject to further review.
I too would not only have been happy had the nomination gone to Janice Rogers Brown, but at this early moment, I probably would have preferred it. I know more about her than I know about Roberts, and I like very much what I know.

WHAT'S HIS POSITION ON ABORTION?!? That's more important than him being top of his Harvard class or white or male or "comfortable" for the PresidentAs a government lawyer, he wrote briefs urging that Roe v. Wade be overruled. But the position he argued as a government lawyer is not necessarily his personal view.

So would I, a white male, have been happy with Ms. Brown. It's time for everyone to judge a person not by the color of their skin but by....., as MLK said.

I wouldn't be so quick to celebrate. Bush nominated a white for this pick, which means it is a virtual certainty that a non-white will be picked to replace Rhenquist. So say hello to Chief Justice Alberto Gonzalez. The type of poster who, on Christmas morning, starts crying because Christmas is now a whole year away.
That's the weakest prediction ever, seriously.

"If this is true, I'm glad it's a white male. And that's coming from a Black male! Although, I would have been happy with Ms. Brown. President Bush has moved Judge Brown up already, and no doubt will do so again. She's top notch. Fierce. Smart. Patriotic. Wonderful.
Roberts is even better.
Life is good.

I think he was quoted by the NY Times: "If you don't own a gun, you should be shot." Sounds good to me. I really don't know but he sounds pretty darn could so far. I trust Dubya.
