Lived in RTP many years after attending nursing school at UNC-CH. Grew up in Charlotte.

Add me to your hurricane ping list.

I am from NC and saw what Hugo did to us.

you come up here for the summer/fall in PA and we'll come down there for the winter. How's that sound? ;-)

I'll be there on the next flight. Have loads of room here for the winter months. Done deal. You really were serious, yes? :-D

They should be fine in Honduras, especially if they're on the Pacific side. Of course, most of Honduras is Caribbean, so the odds are they're going to encounter some high seas during their dive.

Still, it shouldn't be a problem.

OMG--remember Hugo vividly. Was in Chapel Hill at the time, called my parents at 5-6AM because local Raleigh news said the eye of Hurricane Hugo was over Charlotte. My Dad replied--"Like hell the eye of the storm is over us. The eye of the storm is calm, and it's blowing like hell here..."

Never, ever, will I forget that conversation...

I like those model runs, but I'll eat my hat if it crosses Mexico and emerges south of Baja.

Prayers for the people of the Yucatan. This is going to hit them hard.

The good thing about the Yucatan is that it is sparsely populated. There are the resort communities which are fairly new and have pretty good construction. And then there is Merida to the north. Not much in between.

Stranger things have probably happened. I agree with you, however.

Never will I forget the cracking of the pines--6 trees down in our yard, our entire west and south sides of the house covered in shredded leaves, you c/n see out the windows,no electric for four days and we were among the lucky ones. There were people in CLT w/o electric for >2+ weeks.

Yep--grew up in Myers Park/Dilworth. All those wonderful oak trees planted by Mr. Myers. Several years later, Fran spent the night...had six trees on the roof for 105 days. After Fran, hurricane preparation was a normal part of life.

The storms that drive inland are the most fearsome.

I was thinking the same thing. Now that would be a wrench in the prediction gears.

On History Channel now is documentary about 1991 Hurricane Grace. The forecasters now at NHC are being interviewed throughout if you want to put a face to the names.

I did see the conversation about the possibility of two cat 5 storms at once... don't know the history though. I am too much of an amateur to make much sense there quite often... I just have the job of creating idle banter. ;-)
