Not too long ago, Labrador retrievers were considered a tad exotic. In the 1950s, the sporty mid-size breed was a suburban rarity, popular mainly among upper-crust Anglophiles who liked the idea of owning a dignified hunting dog. Today, however, Labs are the Levi's jeans of purebred dogs. They've topped the American Kennel Club's list of registered canines for 12 years straight. And not just topped, but dominated: The number of registered Labs is nearly three times the number of golden retrievers, the second most popular dog on the list

I've been meaning to tell you about the part of Beau's obedience training that Beau didn't do so well in.
On the other hand, he doesn't like beer either, maybe that's why you and he get along so well. Um, that and your ribeyes. And pine cones.
Labs are the greatest. Mine's only half, other half is chow.
She's super gentle. Our cat recently had kittens and Katie (my lab) was their best friend, romping and playing with them. Her demeanor is so low key that the kittens could get the best of her...
I used her on my website recently...one of the funniest pictures I have of her...

BTW...did you take a peek at post 30?
You haven't seen fur until you see a Norwegion Elk Hound. He is the sweetest lovable animal we have ever had.
Supposed to "blow" 2x per year...teehee! It is only worse 2x a year.
His name is Benjamin, 8 years old, and so VERY INTELLIGENT.
He understands my words, my hand signals, and aims to please his Gramma! I love him to bits!
Wonderful with all 3 of my grandsons, and protective of his home and yard. I never fear being alone when the whole family takes off for vacations, etc. He has a deep woof woof that tells everyone around that this is his home, his family, and you had better have permission to come near.
We also have a 6 year old Sheltie, Geri, who is sweet, too, but we call her "psycho puppy". Shelties are known to be very vocal: Yipyipyipyip.
Oreo is our black and white cat, and Cookie is our black cat, rescued from a stray's litter when she was not quite 3 weeks old.
My other son has adopted a BijonFrise/ToyPoodle puppy. It is so cute and little! He ie the perfect size for his 3 year old son. He is all white, and best of all, no shedding and no allergies for his family!
My BIL has one of those. Lab paws, ears, and tail, pit head and body....snores like a camel and slobbers like a St Bernard. Complete sweetheart tho.
The only bad thing about Labs are those damn black dog shirts that every tourist the Martha's Vineyard likes to buy.
I don't know. It was part of a joke that tuffydoodle got in an e-mail. I guess tuffy really liked the picture so it's on his profile page.
I have the same problem with my dog. He keeps trying to prove that one 70 lb. dog and one human can simultaneously occupy exactly the same part of the same bed.
O.K.! You got me on that one.
That is so true. I was lucky enough to adopt a fabulous dog (Jack) two years ago from a Los Angeles California shelter through PetFinders.com.
He was afraid of everything and obviously had very bad experiences in his life. But now he knows what love is and is perfectly happy and not afraid anymore.
Prior to that I had a black Lab "Maverick" who was adopted from Guide Dogs. He was the greatest dog, friendly, funny and loving and a mooch that my little one at the time loved to boss around.
LOL I know what you mean. Healthy, happy dogs always have that 'inner puppy.' What I originally meant was, it takes about 2 years for a lab to lose the 'annoying' attributes of puppyhood.
Yup; the VAST majority of the service dogs at Ground 0 were GS! Boy I was rather surprised at that at this late date. 20 years ago, no, wouldn't have been, but today, surprised to see so many SAR-type dogs there were GS! Perhaps the breed isn't TOTALLY ruined yet.
Not only are there still so many GS in the obvious persuasions, but they INVENTED and/or INNOVATED so many of these "dog" services.
GS are kind of like America. So much good both started -and- done in SO LITTLE time. How could I *possibly* admire any other breed more!? :-D
LOL!
Cuuuute!!
We saw your AWESOME Pics Too!
That Lab is an awesome agility performer!
You are a Proud American Mother!
Enjoy the Summer.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if more people did and shelters would no longer have to euthanize millions of dogs (and cats) every year?
Buster is 2 1/2 years old and is our third rescue -- all great dogs!
"Until there are none ... rescue one."
Have you tried http://www.petfinder.com/?
Go there and select "dog," then breed "Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie" and type in your zip code.
I just did and 260 Yorkies were available in my area. The very first one was a YorkiePoo.
Adoption fees usually run about $150 or less and include the cost of spay/neutering and all shots.
