There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
monments ago, someone is saying that there were warnings to Scotland Yard by Israel moments before the attacks started.
You made a statement attacking criticisms. They are necessary for a free people, to stay that way. It's not your thread, it's "ours"!
Indeed I did... this is NOT the thread for attacking President Bush. London has suffered a horrific terrorist attack.

Laz, didn't know you were in the Atlanta area (or maybe I knew, but forgot).
If they saw the sad state of affairs in response to the murders at the Courthouse, they would know Atlanta is ripe for an attack.
Think I'll stay in Forsyth County today. Thank God I live above the dam.
If they can find pieces of suicide bombers from the buses, Scotland Yard will be able to identify them. They have had practice from the plane bombing in Lockerby, Scotland, several years ago.
When are Western nations going to start deporting Muslims?
BBC here has just reported the BBC secuirty corrspondant as sayingthat his Al Quida sources confirm it was them.
We have a cure for that, and they'll surely appreciate the symbolism of being buried alive strapped to squealing pig.
I wouldn't be surprised if they shut the network down to prevent more explosions. Cellulars calls to explode IEDs are common in Iraq.
"I am British and my first reaction is FU Tony Blair and the warmongers!!"
hows that?
Sure does feel like 9-11....The sick to your stomach and helpless feeling. Prayers for strength!!
Keep us posted on further updates; this confirms our worst fears. I'm just grateful it wasn't a WMD attack.

Been living in London for a couple of years, but was living in CT just outside of NYC on 911 so this is a little eerie (and was growing up in LA during the '92 riots, so you can see I'm very lucky with these sorts of things). I was lucky today, tho, as I decided to work at home. I will post what I can based on what's airing on TV.
Sky saying police confirm at least six explosions in London (plus or including three on buses, I can't tell -- plus I think) ('picture still very confused' says the Metropolitan Police). They say all tube and bus services are suspended, but there are still buses going by my window however and they have passengers on them. It's 11:35am here.
One interesting thing is that Edgware Road was one of the stations affected. This is in the heart of normal, upscale, integrated and friendly Muslim neighborhood in West London. In other words, if you're looking for symbolism, it's a strange choice.
There is a report that Israel might have warned Scotland Yard minutes before it happened.
Bump to that report.
They are trying to make sense of it, same as everyone else.
Man, what a bunch of sickos
Huh? I hope Sky news explains further.
WHDH Boston: "A senior Israeli official says his nation received warning shortly before this occured that 'something' was going to happen in London..."
