There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

I've an inkling that the Islamo-fascists got help somewhere along the way from the Hiberno-fascists, after all who knows more about terrorist attacks in London than the IRA, too early to speculate, though.

But, IMO, anyone who blames this attack on Blair, or your noble involvement in freeing the Iraqi people and fighting this war on Terror, is willfully ignorant of history, and what terrorism is.

Sky News is reporting that the bus was probably blown up by a homicide bomber, but it has not yet been confirmed by Scotland Yard. They are more interested in trying to trace the particles of the explosives used, as if they were not homicide bombers then they are still at large and that is of major concern. If it was the provos, or whatever it is they are calling themselves these days it'll be totally obvious to the ATS.
That seems incredibly unlikely though. No warnings, sequenced attacks. Like they were setting out to copy Madrid. I think the culprits are pretty obvious. I would also be very willing to guess that we'll hear in a few days or at most a couple of weeks, that they are caught or SAS'd.

Today I caught part of someone's remark on FOX. He said something about how unusual it was for this to happen with no chatter. (Of course, whether or not there was chatter is something to be learned later.)
BUT, if there was no chatter and London was caught completely off guard, what are the chances of having an terrorist operative inside the British Government/Scotland Yard/SIS?
I think it would be a very bad idea for Mr Blair to try to pretend that this is not due to being the only major supporter of US action in Iraq. He's already regarded by a majority of the population as dishonest according to those polls, so he's much better advised to be realistic about it.
We all know that's why we were hit. We've been bombed before and we aren't easily intimidated. All this did today was confirm the opinions on both sides of the Iraq issue and get everybody, on whatever side of the political spectrum, coldly angry and quietly determined not to be intimidated.
People have blown us up before and we weren't intimidated.
I'd say the Islamos were trained at some point by the Provos.
