Group Plans To Join Search For Natalee Holloway Saturday

ORANJESTAD, Aruba -- More help is on the way in the search for an Alabama teenager who disappeared in Aruba nearly four weeks ago.

A volunteer rescue group from Texas is to arrive in Aruba Friday evening. A diver with the group said they'd start work Saturday.

Joe Huston said the volunteers will use search dogs and sonar equipment to look for the teen in areas that have not been searched, mainly inland and coastline areas.

Natalee Holloway, 18, hasn't been seen since May 30. Five people have been detained in connection with her disappearance, including a Dutch teen who had been seen with Holloway, and the boy's father, who was arrested Thursday.

However, no one has been charged yet in Holloway's disappearance.

Holloway's uncle, Paul Reynolds, who lives in Houston, asked for the Texas search group's help because the family was frustrated that three weeks of searches on the island had turned up nothing.

Dutch Teen Changes Story About Missing Woman

Joran van der Sloot, 17, has reportedly changed the story he initially gave police about his involvement with Holloway.

The boy's mother told The Associated Press her son now admits to being alone with Holloway on a beach. But she said he insists he did not hurt Holloway.

Van der Sloot and two of his friends first told police they dropped Holloway off at the hotel where she was staying. But his mother said her son admits the story is not true and that he and Holloway were in fact alone together on the beach. But she said he insists he left Holloway there unharmed.

Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty, has insisted that the three young men in custody know what happened to her daughter. She said police should press them harder to tell the truth.

In another development, authorities took the teen's father into custody Thursday as the fifth suspect detained in the case.

A spokeswoman for Aruba's attorney general said Paul van der Sloot is "a suspect in the disappearance" of Holloway. Paul Van der Sloot is a justice official on the island.

His wife insists that Paul van der Sloot has done nothing wrong. She said Aruban authorities arrested him because they were under pressure from the U.S. government and from the news media to produce results.

Anita van der Sloot told The Associated Press her husband was "just picked up by police." She added, "I don't know what to think."

While Anita van der Sloot had been allowed to visit her son occasionally in jail, authorities have denied similar access to her husband. They did so because they were treating the father as a potential witness, and believed contact between the two could damage the investigation.

Officials said that lie detector equipment was brought in for the questioning. Polygraphs aren't admissible in court in the United States, but attorneys said that if everyone agreed, they would use a polygraph in the investigation there.

Joran Van der Sloot's mother visited him in the jail on Tuesday and described him as very upset and sad, but hanging in there. She said that she and her family were very frustrated with a lack of information -- a similar complaint from Holloway's family.

"He's very upset because today would have been a very great day for him," said Anita van der Sloot. "We would have made preparations for his study in the states, so he's very sad, but he's doing OK."

Notice the school SAT and Exam dates for Joran School in post 748. Monday May 30th is when Natalee came up missing and I believe Joran was not arrested until June 7th.

Correcting myself: The 3 boys were arrested on June 9th, 2005

The justice department suspects the Dutch judge, Paul van der S. (53), of accessory to murder, manslaughter or kidnapping with dead as consequence.

The PR putz (Croes) last night slipped up and Alan pounced all over it: She admitted Sr. is held in relation to the disappearance of N - vs. any conspiracy to cover up the crime of help craft the cover story.

Usually all we got is NOTHING from her but she slipped, Alan siezed on the comments, and she admitted as such.

He was arrested early in the morning of June 9th, but yes he would have had the time to finish up his SAT and exams by then.

I just heard it on Fox at 6:15 am CST that the original three were arrested and taken into custody. About F***ing TIME! Now maybe, maybe we'll get somewhere, though I fear it is way too late for Natalee.

Then why bring in cadaver dogs if this is what they believe?

Maybe to preempt N. being murdered. If someone is holding her, they wouldn't want cadaver dogs finding anything so they would maybe have to keep her alive to eliminate any trail detection?

What do you think about tides? If they, or even just Natalie, fell asleep on the beach and then Joran left, only to come back and find a high tide (I think that's the right tide) covering the area where he last saw Natalie, he would maybe just blow it off thinking she left, or, worst case, realize she was too incapacitated by alcohol and possibly GHB to have gotten up and was washed out to sea. Someone on one of the earlier threads asked questions about currents and moonlight, etc. but I can't recall who.

That's right! I hope his book breaks the Terri Schindler Shiavo case open, too. Too many unanswered questions; not enough reasons to speed up her "exit." Another heartbreaking case.

Thanks, cajungirl. Parts of Aruba look awesome and parts look like 3rd world dumps. Really didn't give much thought to Aruba until this happened with Natalie Holloway - now I'm learning about slave trades. I guess I'm pretty insulated from all of this, having only taken one short cruise. But, I did see a Carlos and Charlie's where I went...

SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Earlier today, Alan had the opportunity to speak with Natalee's mother, Beth Holloway Twitty. Here is that interview.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

COLMES: Beth, thank you very much for talking to us.

BETH HOLLOWAY TWITTY, MOTHER OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY: Thank you for having me here.

COLMES: It's got to be tough. Every morning here in Aruba (search), you get up. And we talked about it being like that movie "Groundhog Day."

TWITTY: I can't tell you how hard it is. And you know, this morning, I have had difficult mornings all along. Don't get me wrong.

But this morning I was actually thinking, how am I going to get out of bed today? How am I going to do it? And evidently, I did it. Here I go again.

COLMES: What do you think when you first wake up in the morning?

TWITTY: You know, most mornings when I woke up, I have a strong feeling. It's either anger, or I'm sad, or I'm furious, or I'm, you know, I feel nothing, or, I'm, you know, I never really thought about not getting up and going.

But I'll be honest. This morning, for the first time, I thought, how am I going to do this again? And that was the first morning that I have had like that. So that was an unusual morning for me.

COLMES: And you're prepared to stay here and do this for as long as it takes to get a resolution?

TWITTY: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.

COLMES: Do you know if we're close to one?

TWITTY: I really feel they are. But until they can get the right answers and all of the truth, there are some more people that are going to have to be questioned as witnesses and some more people — additional people are going to have to be arrested. And I know that in my mind.

COLMES: Are you saying that the people who they have in custody now, are they a small part of the whole? Or how many more people are we talking...

TWITTY: I think they hold the key. I think they do. I think they know everything, and they can answer every question. But I do think there are some other people involved.

COLMES: Who are they?

TWITTY: I'd rather not disclose that at this time. But I'm certain that the FBI and the local authorities, they know exactly who they are.

COLMES: And can we expect more arrests?

TWITTY: I will be shocked as her mother if they're not.

COLMES: Within what timeframe?

TWITTY: I hope it's soon.

COLMES: What do you think happened?

TWITTY: I know one thing that happened. My daughter has been kidnapped, hopefully not raped, and murdered. I know definitely that those three individuals kidnapped my daughter. There is no doubt.

COLMES: You are talking about the two Surinamese men...

TWITTY: Yes.

COLMES: ... and Joran Van Der Sloot?

TWITTY: Yes, absolutely.

COLMES: Kidnapped her?

TWITTY: Yes.

COLMES: And beyond kidnapping, what do you think might have happened?

TWITTY: I can only pray that that's all. I hope they didn't murder her, too.

COLMES: You don't believe that?

TWITTY: I believe that she is alive. I do. I do. And that is what gets me up every day. And I have a strong faith and trust in God. And I truly believe that she is alive.

COLMES: And where do you think she is, on the island here?

TWITTY: I think she's right here on this island.

COLMES: Being held somewhere?

TWITTY: Yes.

COLMES: So other people who might be involved are the ones not in custody, the ones might be holding her?

TWITTY: Exactly.

COLMES: Do you have any idea where that is?

TWITTY: No, I wish I did.

COLMES: Van der Sloot's father said, "Honor student, not involved," and I know you went to the house and met with him.

TWITTY: I did.

COLMES: Can you tell us about — that anything transpired there that shed some light for you on this?

TWITTY: I think I have made it clear that I have some pretty strong feelings, from the moment I arrived on this island, 11:00 p.m. on May the 30th. In addition to that, May 31st, in the early morning hours between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m., I had even stronger feelings.

I know — I know — he has some information. It was confirmed to me during that visit at his home.

COLMES: Information that he's not sharing, but not — he was not someone who...

TWITTY: I can't even speculate how. And that's not my job. And I know the FBI and the local authorities, I know they got that.

But from my perspective, my intuition, the feelings and thoughts that I've had for three weeks and three days — I don't even know how long it's been, maybe three weeks and four days. I don't even keep up anymore. It doesn't matter. Absolutely, he has some information.

COLMES: And he was not forthcoming with you? Was it a contentious meeting?

TWITTY: No, absolutely not.

COLMES: Did he reveal anything to you that helped ease your mind or give you some peace?

TWITTY: The only thing I want to disclose is I have confirmation now that he has some information.

COLMES: Are you happy with the Aruban authorities?

TWITTY: You know, I want to focus on going forward from now. Of course, you know, living in the past is not going to get us anywhere. I know that they are working tirelessly on this. I know that. I know they are working around-the-clock. You know, I know they are.

And I have confidence that they are collecting all of the evidence that they need. And I know the FBI is involved right there with them. And I feel assured, of all the official people involved, that they are handling all the technical evidence and gathering it that we need.

COLMES: And are they giving you information that's helpful to you?

TWITTY: Yes, they are. Yes.

COLMES: So they are keeping you in the loop?

TWITTY: Yes.

COLMES: They're not keeping you in the dark?

TWITTY: Absolutely not.

COLMES: What can America do?

TWITTY: You know, I think just doing what they're continuing to do. I mean, their thoughts and prayers are just huge, because when I read all of these cards, and letters, and e-mails — and I'm really reading each one that comes in, because it gives me huge strength and huge support.

And I know the heart of Natalee's community in Mountain Brook, Alabama, is just beating out everywhere from Birmingham to all over the United States. I mean, I'm getting calls from everywhere. It's amazing.

COLMES: How do you stay centered? Here you have a situation, you're thrust into the international spotlight. You sit down, do interviews like this. This is not what you do day-to-day. And you've got to face a very personal family tragedy. How do you stay sane?

TWITTY: I have got one mission, and I'm going to find her. That's it. That's it.

COLMES: Thank you very much.

I'm getting so tired of reading about how Natalie may have been snatched somewhere by nefarious slave traders, drugged and bound, put in a speed boat, and then transferred to another island from which she will be circulated somewhere in south or central America as a prostitute doomed to walk the earth without ever returning to her homeland.

While not beyond some remote possibility, this theory is the stuff of black and white 1940's "Shanghai" movies starring Alan Ladd.

I think we now know enough to say very generally that she and the Dutch boy were on that beach late at night and something bad happened. And probably others, perhaps Father Paulus, had a hand in disposing of the body.

While I hope the slave trade story is correct, I personally find it to be a hook that many loving people are hanging on to in the hopes Natalee is still alive. And no rational person would purposely deny any one the emotion of hope.

However, in reality, while Aruba may be a transport center for the drug trade, I've never heard about any numbers of female tourists being snatched there on the spur of the moment to be sold in a slave trade industry flourishing and operating out of this tiny island.

How do you know that? Is it possible that Beth Twitty knows more about what is transpiring in Aruba with this case than any of us on FR?
