That's what I'm saying. With this call for an investigation, she explicitly supported Durbin's statements. I suspect there was a deal between Clinton and Durbin. She said, you make outrageous statements and I'll call for an investigative commission based on your comments and um, whatever we come up with.

Yes McConnell did but left him standing. Shoulda left him on the floor curled into the fetal position while he had the chance.

I guarantee you McCain won't show that famous temper of his when he's asked about Durbin's remarks. And as a high profile military veteran and United States Senator, if there were ever a time for him to at least call for censure over Durbin's treasonist remarks and condemn them, it should have been swift and immediate. McCain is such a politician though, it won't happen on Sunday or ever...

Mel Martinez

United States Senator - Mel Martinez

June 16th, 2005

MARTINEZ: PEOPLE DETAINED AT GUANTANAMO BAY ARE WELL-TREATED

U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today made the following statement on the Senate floor regarding the detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Martinez said:

“I rise today to discuss the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. This is a place of detention for 520 enemy combatants – they are members of Al Qaeda – they have vowed to kill Americans.

“I would like to express my opposition and disappointment at the comments made by the Senator from Illinois made here last Tuesday regarding Guantanamo.

“His remarks were inflammatory, demeaning, and diminished the critical role of the men and women of our military and very totally lacking in proportionality.

“The people detained at Guantanamo Bay are well-treated. They have food and water. They have medical care. They are allowed to practice their religion. I’ve been there and as the former Mayor of Orange County, I can tell you first-hand that the conditions at Guantanamo are better than those at the Orange County Jail.

“My colleagues might be aware that I too have made recent comments about the detention facility. Let me restate what I said last Friday that has since been so widely reported, and in some cases misreported:

‘The Guantanamo facility has become an icon for bad stories and at some point you wonder the cost-benefit ratio. How much do you get out of having that facility there? Is it serving all the purposes you thought it would serve when initially you began it, or can this be done some other way a little better?’

“These 520 people detained in Guantanamo were part of the more than 10,000 captured on the fields of battle. They are members of Al Qaeda and the Taliban. They have vowed to kill Americans and must not be released.

“There is no question, Mr. President, we are on the right side of this war. This is a war for the hearts and minds of people in faraway places – places where terrorist training camps have flourished – places where the thirst for democracy can only be quenched through trust and understanding.

“The real question we need to ask is how do we best win the war of public diplomacy? The cost-benefit analysis of Guantanamo must be weighed. We need to look at all the options, discuss this matter publicly, and debate the issues. Keep in mind there are truly Gulags on the Island of Cuba and it is not Guantanamo. It is the Cuban government prison system which abuses the Cuban people. There is no comparison between the two.

“The people need to know that our military upholds the highest standards and values and laws. The detainees at Guantanamo are being treated fairly. To say anything contrary is to diminish the honor with which our military men and women serve.
And Mr. President, when we talk about issues as sensitive as the war on terror and detention places in Guantanamo, we need to do so with honesty, proportionality, and civility. I take issue with any suggestion that diminishes the good work of our military men and women.
The men and women of the United States are serving and sacrificing in defense of freedom.

“We must continue to fight the War on Terror – we must unite in our efforts to defeat this common enemy. Thank you, I yield the floor.”

Ah yes, the great state of Washin King County ...

I still cannot believe it came out the way it did.

The Republicans had plenty of evidence of wrong doing...but in the end, it didn't matter.

The dimocraps have learned a great thing...just keep counting till you get the numbers you need.

I don't know if he'll call for censure. But he will speak in opposition, Sunday.

I'd prefer impeachment or bust. Or a recall vote maybe.

I'm too angry to reply with any coherence.

Which Senator nearly cane-ed another to death prior to the civil war?

How do you know? What's your connection with McCain, if you don't mind me asking...

I certainly was left wanting more.

There is a difference between bit-ch slapping and Jap slapping.

One is embarrassing the other is a knock out blow.

I agree with building momentum but not for a Censure, that is nothing more than a slap on the hand. He needs to be forced to resign. We owe that to our Military.

I have called 7 Congressmen, e-mailed many including the White House. Not a response from any. Heck I might just go down the list and call every one of them.

I thought I would have calmed down since I first heard him but I just get more motivated every time I hear it. Durbin would be an argument For Abortion.

Good point. But I think McCain has Kerry compartmentalized in his mind. Kerry's a fixture in the senate. McCain had to learn how to forgive him just to keep some shred of sanity over the years, back when the Old Media dominated. I wonder if he will experience anger transference at the Turban?,/i>

McCain and Kerry were partners in crime in writing off the POWs and renewing relations with Vietnam.

Further reading Chicago Tribune - another article says that J Fn Kerry told a group the other day that he had seriously wanted Durbin as his VP running mate but decided the country would not go for two Roman Catholics. oh ha ha ha So guess he went for the hairball instead.

Here's another!

Thune: Durbin should apologize

June 16th, 2005 - Washington, D.C. - Senator John Thune today called on Senator Dick Durbin to apologize for his inappropriate remarks made on the Senate floor Tuesday regarding U.S. Marines serving their country in the War on Terror.

“Equating American Marines to Nazis is irresponsible and wrong. Senator Durbin owes our men and women in uniform an apology.” – Senator John Thune

Censure. That's no different than 'impeaching' clinton but NOT REMOVING THE PIECE OF !!$$ from office. Meanwhile, he CONTINUES to commit treason and damage our mission on the war on terror, our troops and every one of us.

CALL YOUR REPS

Just faxed my Republican Senator. My dem senator would ignore the request to censure Durbin, so I won't waste my time on Mary Landrieu.

There were 2 Senators that went to Iraq to kiss Sadam's but prior to the war.

Was Durbin one of them?
