We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.

Mission Impossible

Good morning, Finest Readers - your mission for today, should you choose to accept it, is to *set a pretty table* by making at least one post using the html *table* text I have provided below. Just follow these instructions, and it should be quite interesting - and fun for all!

• There are SIX examples to choose from.

• Copy and paste only one example/group of html text into a comment post. You will have to preview it to see the backgrounds and borders.

• After you choose the one you like, please type a story, a joke, a poem, or whatever *into the space you will have when you delete THIS sentence*: "Delete this whole sentence and put your post here instead."

• A word of caution - if you use more than one paragraph for your post, DO NOT USE THE <P>!!!!! Use <BR><BR> between the paragraphs instead!

• Additionally, if you want to illustrate your post with a graphic, please use only one, and place it above any of your text.

One more thing about the graphics - for this *pretty table* to work right, please make sure your graphic is no wider than 400 pixels, or it will stretch all the backgrounds. If you don't know how to find the width of a graphic, right-click on the graphic you're using, choose "properties" and it will give you the diminsions, width first. It is always good to include the width and height of graphics in your img src command when you post them, too. If you don't include the width and height in your command, as we are reading, the text jumps around and we lose our place when the graphics begin to open from that little tiny square!

Dolly, Lori uses PhotoShop - she can tell you EXACTLY how to 'fill' that blank white 'thingie' with your textured background image.....Yes, it is dutchess who uses Picture It. Aqua has the two main programs I have - AdobePhotoDeluxe Home Edition 3

Actually, I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 but am still at the "101" level only using it to size pictures. Have NEVER done anything with backgrounds, canvases etc. Keep hoping to take time to "practice" BUT not enough time in the day!

Oh, that is the sweetest thing, Colleen. I am touched. I am also tired and need to get up and take a walk outside, but today has been rewarding for me as well....I think one reason is because I really have been there, and any of us at the Finest who have had to learn about this wierd html stuff (I think!) are just as happy to help anyone else that wants to learn "how'd dey do dat"!

Isn't this great fun????? Billie is a WONDERFUL teacher. Of all the hostesses, I am definately the most "HTML" impaired. Just can't find the time to "learn". There have been many a time that either aqua, billie or lori have jumped in and "saved me" or I just keep using the same background. Dolly, our newest "sistah" has "zipped past me" having only been doing this a few months :o)

BUT...I would recommend you save ALL the tables as text files...then go to google to find different backgrounds, borders, upload them into a server and then "play". Just insert the new < img command where billie's are.

I think billie mentioned you can test on many sites....many are "more forgiving" than FreeRepublic. Because I can get "sloppy" forgetting to turn on or off a command, I just test on FR. (Hit on the right corner "post article"...on Title of the Thread: Misc, Topics, Misc...whatever you're looking at put in the body and then hit "preview" at the bottom. (Billie, I'm not sure...can you preview a whole "thread" just as a post???) BUT CAUTION: be sure after you preview BE SURE to hit back or "get out of FR".... and don't accidently hit "post". There's nothing MORE EMBARRASSING then posting a misc. thread that doesn't make sense. One time I had 15 people respond within 5 minutes (at my expense but with great humor) before I asked the ad. moderator to delete it (you hit the report abuse button...and they are great AND quick). Anyway, I think there are folks on FR whose days are made when they catch us in glitches LOL!!!

LOL!! No matter how many threads I post, I always hold my breath and concentrate hard on NOT hitting the post button until I am ready.

I've said before that I think it is John's perverse sense of humor that caused him to scrunch the "post" button right up next to the "edit" button. LOL! You know, he could have made it a lot less nerve-racking by putting it on the OTHER side of the page.......but, no.....

Cut and pasted the frame around the picture, have an errant missing command...and here's the mess I end up with. (LOL...many a night billie would be on instant message with me trying to "fix" my mistakes!!!!! Just remember whatever command you put in MUST BE TURNED OFF!!! So...here's a mess!

It is scarry isn't it???? An aside...Mr. D. is an "elected official". The first time he ran (against the "incumbent") my hand was literally shaking as I pushed the "chad"...so afraid that I would vote for the wrong guy. That's the same feeling I have when I post "preview" lol!
