Illegals becoming more violent against Border Patrol
KVOA Channel 4 Tucson ^ | May 31, 2005 | Jennifer Reardon

U.S. Border Patrol agents say they are the victims of escalating violence.

The problem is getting so bad, the Border Patrol says numbers of assaults against them are up almost 50% from where they were last year.

Agents in the Tucson sector are patrolling a total of 261 miles of border, but some are doing it from the confines of a cage.

The vehicles are called 'war wagons', literally designed to protect against rocks and boulders thrown by illegal smugglers.

But the metal caging won't protect agents from a problem that's gaining even more momentum.

"When our agents try to do a vehicle stop, criminal element try to run over our agent to evade arrest," says agent Jose Garza, from the Tucson sector.

So far this fiscal year, the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol has reported 163 acts of assault against agents, compared to a total of 118 for the entire fiscal year of 2004.

National reports say vehicle rammings are up 188%, shootings are up 122% and cases of rock throwing are up 23%.

Garza says, "They're getting frustrated because we're out there. We're encountering them more times."

Agent Garza says he knows, with more manpower and resources, will come more encounters with criminal activity.

There are no reports at this time of deaths or serious injuries to agents. Garza says those on patrol are constantly being trained about the dangers along the international line.

No one. That is why I am ticked off. We spend billions and billions of dollars and can't get the most basic things right.

If Patton and Pershing could tackle these problems, why can't we????????

If we cannot agree that giving drivers licenses to illegals is a bad thing, as well as deporting criminal aliens who commitr the crimes regular Americans are too lazy to commit, then we are only asking to be attacked again and again.

I agree with you on these points.I also think there is more being done than we know about..

It's very frustrating.  And I guess it took the Minutemen to be on the borders to force the true story out about what is going on down there.

This problem would be solved VERY EASILY by simply reducing the questions for any immigrant coming across the border to two. If they can VERIFY
1)Do you have a job waiting for you?
2)Do you have a clean criminal record (no criminal convictions)?
If the answer is yes to both of these and verifiably so. LET THEM IN.

A corrollary to this is to adopt something like McCain-Kennedy or Bush's proposal to allow illegals whose ONLY illegal activity is related to immigration law.

We should, in essence, say "We made a bad mistake by refusing to legally allow in the people on whom we depend to fill entry level labor positions here. It has been hypocritical and wrong and we will grant legal status to anyone whose only legal transgressions have been violation of immigration laws."

We could then CONTROL our border without insulting our neighbors.

This will never fly with a large number of the anti-immigrants here on FR, as the real issue is NOT the border, but rather the influx of hispanics themselves. The border stuff is a pretext. If it were not, there would be support for an amnesty program, as it is the most simple and reasonable solution to what has become a real mess. Instead, half the folks who populate the immigration threads stand up and act like violating the border was tantamount to raping the first lady, rather than people seeking a better life for themselves. My contempt for this crowd grows daily. They are hypocritical statists and racists, making the most hateful and vicious statements about Latinos that one can imagine. They DESERVE to be baited, insulted and abused.

How about having two sponsors who are legal citizens who will sign a personal guaranty against the taxpayer funding any welfare or hospital payments????????

Is this what it's about? Not just the cheap labor but fixing SS and Medicare? I found this old article among my saved mail, and did not keep the link at the time I saved it. It's from 2 years ago:

February 27, 2003
Greenspan: Aging Populace a Challenge
By REUTERS

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Thursday an aging U.S. population presents ``daunting challenges'' for the future that potentially imperil the country's Social Security safety net.

``The changes projected for the United States are not so severe as those projected for Europe and Japan, but nonetheless present daunting challenges,'' Greenspan said in testimony prepared for the Senate's special committee on aging.

He said there would be ``significant effects'' from a rapidly aging population on government finances. ``In particular, it makes our Social Security and Medicare programs unsustainable in the long run, short of a major increase in immigration rates, a dramatic acceleration in productivity growth well beyond historical experience, a significant increase in the age of eligibility for benefits or the use of general revenues to fund benefits,'' the Fed chief said.

He also said there was a risk that flows of capital to the United States could be affected in future as more swiftly aging populations in Europe and Japan trim the investments they hold in U.S. assets.

Greenspan told lawmakers that the sooner the United States faces up to the need to adjust for an aging population, the better. ``If we delay, the adjustments could be abrupt and painful,'' he said.

I live in NYC area and used to be able to view the Towers from the high points where I live. No more.

Because of idiotic notions of compassion we are self imploding.
Allowing uncontrolled mogration of people we cannot verify and whose motives are not always benign is suicide.

These people want a better life, yes, but not according to the rules we have to live by. Illegals don't want to be legal because otherwise they would not be able to work for cash to send back home "to their country."

As soon as they have to pay taxes, and the businesses have to pay payroll taxes on them, they will leave. That is why nothing is getting done about this mess.

Basically, we are screwing our younger workers to pay for the older ones to sit home and collect a check.

My motivations are clear. I live in NY. I don't want myself or another family member to be killed because of stupid notions of compassion that make no sense.

Additionally, if millions of Nigerians and Africans were to want to "come here for a better life" and live on your block would you sing the same tune?

Yeah, many of these people are nice and intend no harm, but that is not the basis to make a national policy when there are people intent on killing us.

Anyone who thinks latinos come here for our social programs is an idiot, plain and simple. They come here to work.

That said, I am against welfare to ANYONE, not just immigrants, and hospitals should turn away any non life-threatening situations when the person doesn't demonstrate means of payment.

Do you consider paying an illegal aliens child's education and emergency room care welfare? I certainly do.

How about this: instead of jailing them, dip them in indelible day-glow dye, head to foot, a different color for each day of the week, then give them seven days to get out of the country. Starting Monday, it's shoot on sight for anybody who's purple; Tuesday it's open season on anybody who's purple or green; Wednesday, purple, green, and blue, etc.

ROFL!! Great visual on that - thanks! I'm kind of leaning toward shooting to stun and sending the bodies for stem cell research - that would appease both sides, right? :-)

Hospitals can't turn away emergency room people as per federal law. That is why many of these people use the emergency as primary care. Why you do think these places are closing? We just had a huge hospital in Port Chester close because of all of the illegals who refused to pay the bills.

It's maybe a quick fix, for the short-term -- I'm thinking that's what the govt is trying to pull off.

It's always the way they work. Leave the problem for the next guy, or the guy after that, way down the road.

But what it works out to is screwing not just the younger workers, but the entire country, by allowing masses of illegals to come in, at least until there's a much bigger outcry from the rest of us. Then they'll have to plug the holes.
