From Iraqthemodel.blogspot.com:
Al-Witwity reports about the confiscation of many Iraqi Sumerian artifacts in Diwaniya after arresting a Syrian mukhabarat officer who was trying to smuggle these priceless artifacts out to Syria in cooperation with some local thugs. Experts estimate the total price of these artistic historic pieces to be around 35 million dollars.
Click here for pictures of the retreived artifacts.

Some of the carved pieces are quite interesting (i.e. pg-13+)... Ancient Sumerian artifacts? Can't read arabic at the source site but maybe someone else can.

Some of those appear related to fertility cults, some appear to be seals for impressing into clay to secure an 'envelope', and some are.. well.. they remind me of the paving stones in cerain ancient cities that advertised where houses of prostitution were.
Rather interesting collection.
Seized in Syria?
Interesting.

Interesting that the whole world was up in arms a few months ago saying that American soldiers had vandalized the Ancient City of Babylon. Now we see this, Iraqis selling artifacts to Syrians, where is the outrage.
By the way, some friends and I drove down to Babylon to visit the site. The people guarding it were Polish troops, not American. We couldn't get in without written permission gained in advance and then we had to be escorted. So these so called Archeologist's can kiss my rebel butt.

Interesting pieces, thrown spouted vessels, glazed,
lots of seals, a representation of a boat no less.
Quite the haul.

Hey, what's a little personal profiteering as long as it serves the interest of pan-Arabism? ;')

Whoa. Scatty stuff. Also, these appear to be from a range of ancient eras.
