Pat Robertson:No Muslim judges

Islamic leaders demand apology for 'hate-filled remarks'

Evangelist Pat Robertson is in trouble with U.S. Islamic organizations for saying Muslims should not serve in the president's Cabinet or as judges.

Pat Robertson

In an appearance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" Sunday, Robertson, who ran for president in 1988, said if were elected he would not appoint Muslims to his Cabinet and that he was not in favor of Muslims serving as judges.

"They have said in the Quran there's a war against all the infidels," Robertson said. "Do you want somebody like that sitting as a judge? I wouldn't."

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations yesterday called on "mainstream political and religious leaders" to repudiate the "hate-filled remarks."

"This type of hate-filled rhetoric deserves repudiation from all who respect America's long-standing tradition of pluralism," said Rabiah Ahmed, CAIR's communication coordinator.

Ahmed said many Muslims already serve with distinction in many levels of government, including judgeships at the state and local level.

Arsalan Iftikhar, CAIR's national legal director, said Robertson "has taken his far-right-wing rhetoric to absurd levels."

"He is trying to perpetuate this notion that Islam is a monolithic entity inherently at odds with modernity and democracy," Iftikhar said. "That is absolutely false. ... American Muslims have long been contributing members of American society.

Iftikhar added: "And I guarantee to Mr. Robertson that Muslims will one day become part of the federal bench -- whether or not he likes it."

Muslims were particularly outraged by a 2002 appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" program in which Robertson said about Islam's prophet, Muhammad: "This man was an absolute wild-eyed fanatic. He was a robber and a brigand. And to say that these terrorists distort Islam, they're carrying out Islam. ... I mean, this man (Muhammad) was a killer. And to think that this is a peaceful religion is fraudulent."

Robertson also called Islam "a monumental scam" and claimed the Quran "is strictly a theft of Jewish theology."

Please, I did not say American Muslims. I said MUSLIMS. These are the same people that strap on bombs and blow up civilians daily in Israel. These are the same people who did 9/11. These are the people who did the Berlin Olympic murders in 72. These are the same people who saw heads off, blow up planes, train stations, etc. Peddle your garbage elsewhere. Muslims cannot be trusted. If you trust them, it is likely that you will be found in pieces one day under a pile of rubble after one blows you up.

Peddle your garbage elsewhere.

What garbage would that be? The claim that under American law everyone is treated equally, regardless of religion?

Yes, that is a crazy concept to some, I guess.

The struggle between Christianity and Catholicism has existed since day one of the Catholic Church, and every day since.

*Yawn* Boring old anti-Catholicism.

Crawl back under your bridge, troll.

"by retreating to the Constitution group think is sure to win"

Sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about. It is the constitution that guarantees our freedom by binding and limiting government (b/c government growth is antithetical to individual freedom). While true our constitution is rooted in moral principles, your claim that it leads to group think is absurd.

Furthermore our adherence to the constitution has no relationship to the advancement of socialism in our society (in fact being a government limiting document is has been one of the greatest impediments). Socialism has advanced because enough people believe in it and actively campaign for it and gained enough prominent positions during the 20th century to advance the ideology.

If the majority of the founding fathers thought our underlying principles should guard our freedoms then what the hell did they write a constitution for? Honestly now.

Roberston is right. The U.S. is a Western country with Christian cultural and intellectual traditions. Atheists should not be appointed as judges or given important cabinet positions either. Along with that, Nazis and Communists should not be given judicial or cabinet appointments. This is just common sense. People connected with ideologies that promote the mass murder of Western Christians or Americans cannot be given leadership positions of courts or in the government. Does this really have to be debated?

"Please, I did not say American Muslims. I said MUSLIMS."

So your broadening the brush stroke you paint with. You realize that is only amplifying his point of you being a bigot?

"Peddle your garbage elsewhere"

I will tell you what is garbage. This notion that all Muslims are evil despite the fact that 100 of millions had nothing to do with the attacks, and 10s of millions living in the united states are good law abiding citizens. This bigotry is completely anti-conservative (hello individual, inalienable rights and freedom including the right to life liberty and happiness) you cannot indite a whole group of INNOCENT people, its ugly and it is completely against the principles this country was founding on. Principles that everyday we conservatives defend against liberals. Perhaps you sir need to peddle your garbage elsewhere, I can think of quite a few supremacist groups that would welcome your parochial viewpoint.

I don't care whether hundreds of millions had nothing to do with the attacks. The fact is that you can't tell them apart from the ones who did, and you never know when one is going to strike. I don't trust them...not because of their race, color, nationality, but because their actions speak for themselves. I am not going to attempt to tell a good one from a bad one, much like I don't attempt to distinguish a poisonous snake from a non-poisonous one. I don't trust any of them. I never will. Let the hundreds of millions who are peaceful start taking out the garbage among them and maybe we'll talk.

Muslims have been involved in nearly every major terrorist event of the last 30 years. More particularly, Arab male Islamic radicals between the ages of 18 and 45. The facts are the facts. All this PC crap about how peaceful Islam is.....as I said...peddle it elsewhere. Islam is the root of nearly every shooting war on the planet. It isn't peaceful, and it never has been.

I don't think I am supreme to anyone. I don't wish to join any supremacist group. I just don't trust Muslims. They have a tendency to commit violence. I'm sure there are many who don't. I don't care. The fact that they have the potential to do it more so than most groups of people is enough for me to avoid them, keep them away from my children, and be vigilant for the moment when they might strike.

They wrote a Constitution to provide and administrative framework and limit the power of govt. There was debate as to whether or not the Bill of Rights should have been included. The Constitution doesn't grant an individual his rights, God does that. The fears of Patrick Henry have been realized in America today, most Americans consider the Constitution as the source of their rights, and accept as their rights whatever the Supreme Court at the moment decides they are.

The Supreme Court can use whatever logic it wants to get around the Constitution and has many times.

I understand a "modern man" can't be bothered with historical facts. Go on being a humanist and keep expecting the cycle of civilization to change because you are so much more modern than men of the past.

I suppose there are few Americans anymore that know the substantive difference between the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

Interesting, I'm am "tacking on" to the Bible?

Your quote Jesus and do not even realize that the Catholic Church has a long history of contradicting the very quote you use.

No man comes to the father but through Jesus. So we agree that salvation through works is a lie and an addition to the Bible. Salvation through works denies the work of Jesus and grace of God.

And we agree praying to Mary is a lie, you only come to the father through Jesus.

Who is adding to the Bible? We are talking about salvation here, its a topic worth getting right.

As to what "historians" or "catholics" think is irrelevant, the Bible is the standard.

What's with the reference to Philemon? As I recall that book involves a runaway slave accepting the word of God and then returning to his Master. Paul offered to pay any debts and accept him as a brother in Christ. I never suggested that anything someone had done would prevent them from being a Christian as much as any Christian. The key is accepting the word of God, not calling yourself a Christian. Big difference.

Your completely right, our rights do come from God. The constitution was created to secure those God-given rights. All humans have the inalienable right endowed by there creator yes, ALL humans including Muslims. No human has the right to treat others differently for a crime they didn't commit. If they are terrorists string up by their boot straps, but if they have nothing to do with terrorism, it is an error in judgment (and anti-Christian as well as anti-conservative) to suggest they are also murderers and terrorists. Jesus would never do this.

Fortunately I have a better chance of being elected president than Robertson has.
