Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

I also found her speech to be very well done. Except for 2 remarks. I don't understand the vitriol against those who took exceptions to those remarks. Big deal. I still like her. My opinion is just that she said a couple things I felt were out of place. Why the hatred for those who didn't like her remarks? Why the comparisons to the Taliban? Really, really wierd.
Honestly, if Hillary or Thereza made similar jokes about their husbands I'd probably not even be aware since I wouldn't have watched, but if I did become aware of it my attitude would be that of indifference. So what? I'll save my outrage for something that actually matters. :-)
I agree to a point with your media assesment. However, remember GW needed everyone of those votes. A win of about 2.5% of the popular vote shows how important those votes were. In Ohio, there was close co-ordination with the leaders of the anti-gay marriage admendment.
I doubt you've ever had your Intelligence Quotient tested.
:-)
Instead of saying something intelligible, you resort to personal attacks.
How profound.
tolerance cuts both ways. why don't you turn that around and ask why the administration would seek to stick this in the face of supporters who might be offended by it. especially for ZERO political upside, what do you think, there are some Dems out there who are going to switch their vote in 2008 because Laura can tell a joke about her husband?
What baloney.
Were you just waiting for an opportunity (however small) to post that junk?
Geesh...
I'm just jealous, 'cause my original one draws a blank...lol... no posts.
I've instituted a policy of waiting ten seconds before hitting the final post button a year or so ago in an effort to cut those numbers down when I'm a little irritated. I hope it's working.
Once more! With ~feeling~!!!!
My problem is with those that wish to make this a national disgrace. Those that believe the first lady is 'white trash'. Those that have outrageously suggested the mid-terms of '06 will be lost because she mentioned Desperate housewives.
If the majority of dissenters simply didn't like the jokes, I don't think this would be an issue. The issue has arisen because the majority of dissenters have gone completely overboard and want to take the reputation of Republicans and Christians with them. It's gotten way out of hand and I question the agenda of the majority engaged in this.
indeed. way too many freepers have convinced themselves that the 2004 election was a landslide, Reagan in 1984 was a landslide. Our party needs every vote it can get.
You're just late to the party if you think the vitriol is coming from only the side that actually laughed at the jokes. What you are seeing is the rebellion against the first threads on this, where the first lady was called a whore and admonished for unsubmissively interrupting her husband.
That thread got pulled after over a thousand posts of that or I'd prove it.
"I agree very much, and history tells us that feminism (and its vulgar nature) is the favorite tool of socialism. Nothing could be further from any stated goals of our RNC. Save the following, Copy and paste."
The problem is that the RINO social-liberal "Republicans" are indeed the ones trying to hijack the GOP.
LOL
1st grade is wayyyy above them....
Your tagline has me rollin'!!!!
I guess it never occurred to you that it's NOT your signup date that bothers everybody, eh?
LOL!!!
