Noting that in his Good Friday homily soon-to-be pope Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger condemned the "filth there is in the church," Wheeler believes the pontiff "will not tolerate [homosexuality's] presence in his church."

Click here for Latin Mass. There may be music. Adjust your speakers accordingly.
I've read it, what's your point?
You are correct.
I assume that all priests know Latin-and that saying/reading the mass in Latin is not beyond them.
So what is to stop any parish priest from offering one mass in Latin per week? There are ususally three masses on a Sunday- early morning, midday and later in the afternoon. So one of them is done in Latin instead of English/Spanish/whatever.
Decent attendance=continuation. Empty pews- your parish doesn't want Latin mass, so you stop.
The IMPOSITON was in stopping Latin masses; giving the faithful a choice in every language but Latin. That drove those who prefer their traditional mass away from the main body of the Church. What's worse, there is a real 'outcast' feel.
I attend Latin mass- and the tiny church that offers it is hard to get to, and always crowded. The children in the family go to Catholic school- and they get grief from the parish priest about not attending mass there on Sundays.
I resent being considered 'schismatic' for preferring what was right for thousands of years.
Why should Latin be considered 'bad', as a language, when any other language is just fine for the mass? Why can't it be offered as a choice- as any other?
Our bishop has let it be known that he will approve a Tridentine Mass to any parish that wants one.
We have one parish that has a weekly Tridentine Mass, and about 150-200 people attend. In addition, a priest from another diocese has to celebrate it because no priest in our diocese will do so.
I think you overestimate the enthusiasm for the Tridentine Mass, or even the Latin Novus Ordo, among both priests and parishioners.
Do you not know the difference between the Aaronic priesthood and that of Melchisedech? Your boys are trying desperately to copy the Aaronic and they were married.
And I ask yet again---why does the mass of the "classical Roman rite" have to be in Latin?? What is this fixation on having the mass said in a dead language??
As the liturgy protects dogma, having that FAITH, handed on once and for all from Jesus Christ and His Apostles passed down in tact. It allows Catholics the opportunity to have the same message transferred from generation to generation in every Church at every altar of the world.
It breeds unity for those who speak different languages, rather than having separatist nationalistic churches. Unity in the Dogma of Faith. The language doesn't change, therefore, the dogma doesn't change.
"I think you overestimate the enthusiasm for the Tridentine Mass, or even the Latin Novus Ordo, among both priests and parishioners."
Oh yes, because the diocesan priests, in kahoots with the bishop, refuse to offer it, then we overestimate the demand, based upon your limited worldview in your diocese.
This has to do with obedience. Obedience to the true Vatican Council II. Obedience to immemorial custom. Obedience to the Faith.
If your bishop were really interested in being "wide and generous" in the application of the indult, he would publicly give EVER single priest the indult if they want it, just like Bishop Doran in Rockford (IL) has done.
Then again, if you have no young priests nor seminarians in your diocese, there would be no need, because then the modernists have destroyed the demand for true liturgy, and the laymen don't know any better. Sort of like Milwaukee, WI. "If the shepherd leads it flock into a pit..."
Do the Eastern Rites not enjoy a Unity of Faith?
And let's be honest. The dogma does not change because there are Spanish and English Masses, and even a Latin Mass, in the same parish.
Perhaps Catholics SHOULD be allowed to choose. You'd be surprised at how few regular Mass goers today would opt to regularly attend a Latin Mass, of either stripe.
It wouldn't matter. Nobody would say the Tridentine Mass. Any parish here that wants a Tridentine Mass can have one. I'd think that any priest who was anxious to celebrate the TLM would just go and do it, and hope some folks show up.
Washington DC has three TLMs, according to our friend sitetest. They are well dispersed, throughout the archdiocese and at convenient times. Two are well attended, one less so. Yet none are so packed to the rafters that someone who wants to attend is prevented from getting into the church.
There's more of a demand for Spanish and Vietnamese Masses in our diocese than Latin.
"Do the Eastern Rites not enjoy a Unity of Faith?"
Had using the vernacular been useful in whatever evangelization that has been attempted by either Eastern-rite Catholics or Eastern Orthodox?
Has Greek Orthodoxy or Byzantine Catholicism taken the West by fire? How about the Russian Orthodox? They don't even have anyone attending in Russia.
Has Orthodoxy and Eastern Catholicism spread like wildfire throughout the world? If so, why are less than 1 percent of all Catholics of the Eastern rite?
Balkanized and segregated churches. Segregated language. Segregated Faith. It does not help in the spread of the Gospel.
Homosexuality is an abomination and the only way they made their way into the church was to violate all their vows before God and to hide who they truly were.
No one in the Catholic church ever put the welcome matt for homosexual predators to join the priesthood. They infected the calling through deceit and lies.

No.
Balkanized and segregated churches. Segregated language. Segregated Faith.
There's no evidence that Eastern Rite Catholics have a "separate Faith." Or that Mexican Catholics have a "separate Faith" from Europeans or Africans or Americans.
You say segregated churches, yet the Catholic Church continues to grow, dramatically in many cases, with the segregated languages in use around the world.
Latin didn't exactly set the African Church on fire 40 years ago, did it?
I am Protestant, and I love to watch Father Corapi. Something tells me that he voted for W.
Dear sinkspur,
"Two are well attended, one less so. Yet none are so packed to the rafters that someone who wants to attend is prevented from getting into the church."
Actually, one is very heavily attended - the Mass at Old St. Mary's. When I looked into it a couple of years ago, I was made to understand that it was standing-room only.
I was assured, however, that I'd be able to get into Mass, if I chose to come.
From what I gather, when folks who prefer the old rite come to Washington, that's the Mass they attend, and when folks want to try the old rite, that's often the Mass they attend.
The other two Masses, I was made to understand by staff at their respective parishes, when I inquired a couple of years ago, usually draw half a church or perhaps a bit less. The Mass at 11 am in Benedict, MD is in a parish church that might seat 400.
I've never been to the church in Silver Spring, MD where the old rite is at 7:30 am on Sundays, but I was informed that it doesn't draw heavily.
Remember, though, all my research is now about two years old. I noticed recently that the St. Francis DeSales in Benedict has a new pastor. Perhaps he might promote the old rite more than the previous pastor.

What about Sts. Cyril and Methodius? Pope John VIII certainly thought that the Slavonic liturgy would help spread the Gospel.
