The personal accounts are the main reason I'm attracted to the proposal. Without them, I'd rather the whole system crashed in 20 years. Let the people feel the full impact of what cowards and obstructionists in Congress wouldn't prevent when they could have.
can't make a case for private accounts? americans love their 401Ks and are doing very well with them on the whole and over the long term. if the case can't be made for private SS accounts, then americans should be pulling out of 401Ks in droves. are they?
Any MTV show would fit--Punk'd, Real World, Road Rules ... The list is endless :)
Why should Bush worry about poll numbers--he isn't running for anything?
Well, the President thinks about problems and he made that clear tonight (as if we did not know that). If I discarded every person I know who did not agree with me on everything and who did not do exactly what I want every time, I think I would be a pretty shallow person, and also a very lonely one. He is human and can't change everything and do everything, but I wouldn't at this time want anyone else in the place that he is. We could have had Algore after all, who wouldn't know the truth or the right thing to do if it hit him square in the face. I want control over the borders, I want the government smaller, starved if necessary. But all of this cannot happen at once. So I think we should keep fighting the good fight, elect more Tom Coburns and Cornyns and DeLays and Santorums and see if we can't do some good. Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good. Bahbah says. :)
Chuck Schumer on with Matthews, talking about the energy plan:
"One work that didn't come out of the president's mouth tonight: 'conservation'."
Un, Chucky, that was the FIRST thing he said in addressing the energy problem. No correction from the Spitball staff of course.
OIh, fer Pete's sake... Stop whining! The company I work for is hiring. You got a good driveing record and a valid license? We'll give you a job driving around in an air-conditioned pickup delivering auto parts to our installer customers. Pays better than minimum wage, too. If you know something about cars, trucks and parts, we can put you behind the counter. Lots of chances to move up. I went from counterman in a retail store to corporate headquarters doing computer help desk for our store team members. We're the sixth-largest auto parts retailer in the country and growing. We're in all the states from Florida to Texas to Nebraska to Virginia. Anybody who's willing to work hard and learn the business can have a future with our company, and we're just one of many. There's lots of jobs out there, and it ain't flipping burgers. Sheesh!
I want the personal account.
I want a transition off FDR's system.
1/3 is better than nothing.
Right now, that is what we are looking at.
Question is, will we get it?
I want an energy policy too. One that does not limit our dependence on foreign crude for energy... but that eliminates all avenues of blackmail.
Will either happen?
I doubt it a LOT.
I agree completely with that - if private accounts fails, the next best alternative is to do nothing. because without private accounts, the only other components of the solution will involve tax increases, removing the income cap on the current 12.4% tax, and means testing. we can't have a republican president and congress sign on to that solution. better to pass nothing now, let the system head towards insolvency.
I think so, but anyway Thursday nites are marathon World's Funniest Animals shows. That's what I switched to after seeing Colmes' funereal face.
Oh, OK. Well, I'm stuck in a hotel with CNN, C-SPAN1,2,3 (I'll take those), the Weather Channel, HBO and - oddly - waaayyy too many shopping channels. I think I'll check the C-SPANs, HBO, or turn the tube off entirely. ;-D
LOL. Just confirms it. You are childish.
I think I have created a lose-lose-lose for myself. :)

I will tell you something my husband and I learned. I bet he sent out 1000 resumes. He got his job from a want-ad and sold himself as someone who could do the job. He worked there for a year (miserable firm) and had a client who got him a better job closer to home.
Most jobs come from personal contacts, rather than resumes. Ask around at church or at the PTA. If resumes aren't working, you need to try something else.
Beautifully put---that is the way my husband and I live--actually my big expenditure each month is my FR donation because it is my favorite place to be when not busy with my mom and grandma and wife duties.....
As Hannity would say, you're a great American. Bahbah thinks so too.
If you're looking for something to watch, a new CSI will be on in about 15 minutes.
Was there any mention of immigraion during the press conference?
From the transcript.....
To reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy, we must take four key steps.
First, we must better use technology to become better conservers of energy.
Hey, Chuck!
It was the first freakin' one, you idiot!
