Your payroll tax covers the payments to beneficiaries, what's left over Congress spends on anything they damn well please. That's where it goes, anywhere and everywhere, the general fund. There is NO investment of this money.

Speaking from experience, you get one benefit -- naturally, the greater amount -- but ONLY ONE! That really bugs me as does the fact that, when God calls us home, that money cannot be left to your heirs -- it GOES BACK TO UNCLE SAM!!

I've told my friends and kids -- if, God willing, I'm in a position to know that my days are numbered, I'm going to find a friend who understands what I'm doing, and get married -- so the dang money goes to someone I choose and it doesn't get thrown back into the pot. That policy really infuriates me -- and W was right when he said it was an unfair system. Most people don't know what the real deal is.

There are a lot of us. Despite baby-boomers being called spoiled, there are a lot of us who have had to scrimp, make-do, and hustle to stay afloat.

I am glad we made it through, and although I would have preferred to have all of our savings back, we learned what was important. We do not belong to golf clubs or health spas. We got our daughter through college and managed to give her a nice wedding. I cared for my dad at home through his declining years, and didn't have to put him on Medicaid.

We have our family, our faith, and out home. That is enough. I am quite happy to have enough money to buy bedding plants and get my hair done once a month.

People need to look at the work situation as constantly changing and a married couple has to work as a team. And sometimes you have to sacrifice either your dreams in one career, or your place of living, or extras, or whatever. Life isn't meant to be easy; we are meant to persevere.

I heard it on radio coming home. He was good on the private accounts, good on the iraq answers and general national security matters. but I did not like his answer about religion and the judges. and I do not understand what the overall SS plan is regarding "higher benefits for low wage seniors" - it sounds like means testing. its very easy for the Dems to simply ignore the private accounts issue entirely, and move on the issues of means testing of benefits and tax increases or income cap removal for the current 12.4% tax.

Did he say as a closing, 'Thank You All For Your "Answers"?

Shouldn't hat have been 'Questions'?

He said it and meant it. Thw MSM didn't come with "questions." They had already developed their "answers."

We pay into Social Security, and have a 401K as well as other investments.

The Dow has been up and is now down close to 10,000 again.

But I'm not complaining..win some lose some. Nor can we expect that poor people will pay into a private investment fund, unless they have a GUARANTEE..if that. That said, I don't have the answer...

A Democrat Congressman just interrupted Alan. LOL!! OMG! Now Alan is trying to FIX the Congressman's answer! Gee, Alan, why have him on? Why not just answer the question according to Dem talking points yourself. Since you just did.

Who does Adam Smith (D) belong too? He cannot give any SS plan, all he can do is ask what President Bush has put forth, PUT FORTH??????????? The dopf kopf has not one idea to counteract President Bush's program. THAT IS A DEMOFLOP FOR YOU. I don't understand these mindless people.

Since you did not know how much of a percentage of a person's income is paid into SS through the payroll tax, I assumed you did not contribute to SS, hence you must be contributing into the Public Employees Retirement System. What percentage of your income do you contrinute in that system?

yeah... You just keep up the laughter smarty pants...

This second term is obviously going to be about FAILED promises to, and betrayals of, the base, NOT about the winning two wars in W's first term: Iraq & Afghanistan. He's afterall, not THEIR president.

Hey, I got an idea, let's index social security!
When we carry out what is being called the "constitutional nuclear option," voting on a rules change in the Senate on confirmations of conservative judges, get back with me.
