The UK system is complicated because of course we have National Insurance which covers our NHS etc.

Basically base rate is 22% the best thing I can do rather than try to explain it which I don't fully under is give the links to our tax and national insurance rates on the net

I'm sorry! I was assuming you were an American. We pay 12.4% to the Social Security system. The employee contributes half, the employer contributes half. If you are self-employed like I am you pay both halves. In reality, even if you have an employer you are paying both halves because the money the employer is contributing is money that he is NOT paying you in wages.
