LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. - A man with car trouble is in trouble after shooting five rounds into the hood of his Chrysler "to put my car out of its misery."

John McGivney, 64, shot his 1994 LeBaron with a .380-caliber semiautomatic, Broward County sheriff's deputies said.

When the property manager at his apartment complex asked what he was doing, McGivney said, "I'm putting my car out of its misery." He tucked his gun in a pocket and went back inside.

My co-workers sent this to me, since they've LONG been waiting for me to do this to MY car.

Notice, however, that he's not a "frustrated motorist", but a 'GUNMAN'? If only the car had been an SUV, the MSM would have labeled him 'HERO'...

And if the car had been a hybrid, he would have been labelled a "right wing extremist" or "gun fanatic".

Hilarious! We all have wanted to do this, one way or the other...shoot the TV, shoot the computer, shoot the soundsystem!

And he walked back inside. How final.

We're gonna find this on a TV sitcom or comedy movie soon....

To late Col Sherman Potter did it in Mash to his Jeep after frank burns ran it over with a Patton tank.

Good thing it was an "American" car, otherwise it would be a hate crime.

This is news? Happens around here all of the time. I thought it was normal behaviour. The only difference around here is that the humane individuals use large caliber rifles and .45 Semi-autos more often; a .380 would barely hurt the block.

Wasn't that in that TV show that lasted longer than the Korean war but was really about the Vietnam war? /sarcasm

Someone should find a link here to that classic WW2 Bill Mauldin cartoon of the soldier shooting his busted up Jeep.

If Elvis can shoot his TV, a guy should have a right to blast his Buick.

This is a FWD LeBaron. You can crack the block with a baseball bat. A .380 will do it just fine.

I applaud his actions - all FWD LeBarons should be put out of their misery.

Bwhahahah!!!
I did this once. I had a Toyota Corona, '78 or '79, that I had a lot of mechanical problems with on a daily basis. One night I came home and the car would not stop running. It kept choking and coughing the way old cars did when they were vapor locked. We pulled the plug wires, the battery cables, etc. and still couldn't get it to stop sputtering. I called a buddy that helped me work on my cars, (he lived behind me at the time)and he came and tried to get it to stop with no luck. After about 15 min. he said I'll be back. He came back, reached under his jacket and pulled out his dad's .44. I grabbed the gun and said "No, let me do it". I took aim, pulled the trigger, and put a nice 3 round group into the aluminum block. The car stopped coughing, and I sold it for junk the next day.

A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!!!!

No, seriously, I totalled my Saturn (not hard...they're made mostly of plastic) about three weeks ago.

I SUCKS and I mean SUCKS, having to rely on other people for rides until the insurance check and a couple of paydays go by until one can afford to get another vehicle.

That aside, I've been joking to my officemates that "I shot me own horse out from under me...kids, let me offer you some sage advice from an outrageous (but good looking) old woman...'never, never do that to YOUR horse...'"

My boyfriend has a Mustang, but he works about sixty miles from where I do (I go North, he goes south, then East, on bad MO roads all the way), and he's never in the mood to give me a ride all that way....

I guess I keep him up too late...um, ah, watching all that SpeedChannel, and ESPN, and NHRA tapes, and reruns of South Park, ahem, yes, that's it....

(Actually, he says the engine heats up too much if he runs it that fast that far. Yeah, Vincent, right!!!!)

):)

I'll bet you wouldn't try this with an SUV, what with the way they're running around killing people and such.

Ok, granted it was a Dodge - and not just any Dodge; a *groan* 'K' car Dodge. I completely understand his grief (I used to have an '89 Spirit - nuff said). But my goodness, he could've at LEAST blindfolded the grille before shooting the thing. Where's his sense of diplomacy?
